This is one of the closest hotels to SEG Mart.

Hotel is clean, chinese-style western. There's free internet and close to SEG Mart, so you can dash in, dump your shopping and go back for more.

There's a Korean restaurant round the back that is really quite good, with huge heaping servings, and it's next to a shopping mall underground.

I'd stay here - or at one of the spas at Lok Ma Chau or Luo Hu.

It's like visiting an old friend. The purpose of staying is really to see if anything has changed after my last stay five years ago. Fortunately, this hotel is just as I remember it , which is great. Every cab driver knows this hotel which is part of the reasons why I put up here. Don't get me wrong, this is no 5 star, or even international 4 star hotel and there are certainly a lot of much more upmarket hotels in Shenzhen but if you want to experience a Chinese-take on Western Style accommodation, then it's a great choice. Hotels.com seems to have great deals on this hotel. I got a Executive room with breakfast for a US$70/night. Service was efficient, e.g. Wifi signals was weak in my room and they kindly set up a modem via the in room ethernet for my room. Can't complain. For a forty-plus year old property in a city where 5 -year- old buildings are considered old school, it's doing great!

The service at this hotel is terrible! I am from the US - I booked 4 executive level rooms through E-Long. When we arrived, the hotel had canceled our rooms because of over-booking. They basically didn't care - once they informed us of the cancelation they wouldn't even talk to us to try and help us out. Elong wasn't of much help either to be honest. I finally had to locate a hotel and tell Elong to contact them. Also, from the looks of the lobby this is probably a 2 star hotel - maybe a 3 star at most.

The Shenzhen Shanghai hotel is a nice hotel. I had a “standard” room (there is a lower, “common” room) that came with free internet, and a nice Chinese breakfast. The room was large and well appointed with a flat panel TV, CNN and Bloomberg in English. Nice bathroom with standard paper-bag amenities. Comfortable bed, non smoking rooms, and three phones (scale of 1 to 5). Not much around the hotel and the area is under construction. Taxi is 20 RMB from Hang Gang Port and there is subway station about two blocks away. If you get a good rate, you will like this hotel and I recommend it.
I had a problem as the hotels.com reservation was not found, even with a copy of it. The front staff was competent in English and gave me a rate at only a slightly higher rate. It was the 25th anniversary for the hotel so I got to pick a small gift as a result.
