This place was my home for several months as I worked in the Dongguan area.

The rooms were great and so was service.

The food was no so good, but most food in China was not that great. It was very had to find a place that had really good food.

When I traveled to other area's of China I quickly learned to say "I can't wait to get home to the Sofitel."

Since I didn't have to pay for anything I didn't care what the prices were, but they were very expensive.

If you go to Dongguan this is the place you will want to stay. Don't bother staying anyplace else they will just not compare.

Great oasis. Food's good, not spectacular or cheap. We stay here on all trips over, clean, great service and large rooms, even the least expensive are very good sized. Concierge is very helpful as well for cabs, directions and reservations.

This is probably my 25th business trip to China and and nearly 100th Chinese hotel stay. The Sofitel Dongguan is a typical "Chinese Great Vision" with numerous blunders.

1. The bed is rock hard. This may be the hardest bed I've ever slept on, at least in China. At first I thought they may have stacked two box springs on top of each other by mistake. I was thiinking of extending my stay by a day, but after checking in and feeling the bed, there is no way. I'd never knowingly come again to a place with beds like this.
2. They are doing construction on the roof right above my room. I come into my room just as a pile of rocks is being dumped up there. Whoa! How much did I pay for this?
3. The workout / weights area is on par with a Hampton Inn, not very good, and the carpet is threadbare at the edges. Felt like I was working out in central Brazil.
4. The pool is open... but the water is 65 degrees.
5. I ordered room service, a hamburger and fries. The hamburger was very good, the fries were cold. How can fries be cold?

The pros: People are friendly

Spent one night here for work and the room was comfortable, internet worked great, OK TV selection. It was dark when I arrived and dark when I left, so the beautiful grounds I never got to see.

The bed was hard. Room service food below average but fast. Work area was OK. Room was nice size, with couch and coffee table. AC worked good, bathroom was large and functional. No electrical outlets near bed. Didn't do breakfast, so no comment on that...

This hotel basically was a place for me to stay after arriving in town late. It was quiet and worked out well for my business in the city.
