“If You Are In The Middle of Nowhere, Dongguan, Stay Here.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 March 2011

The rooms are really large and very, very CLEAN. The maids were very thorough every day. The hotel itself is beautiful. The staff's English needs a bit of help - but they can usually figure it out after about 10 minutes of back and forth or a visual. The two gyms were very nice and the indoor pool was clean and heated. Hotel was maintained nicely. The best part was that it was next door to a McDonald's (yes, I am that shallow) when one gets tired of the local cuisine. The downside was that it was nowhere near the city center so we couldn't explore any part of Dongguan.

“if you are coming to Houjie for a convention this is one of the best places to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2011

Regal Palace is one of the biggest hotels in Houjie, it's located right next to the large exhibition center so it is well known by all. That said, going to any other parts of the city requires a taxi as the surrounding areas do not have much to offer

The rooms are adequate, on the grand scale really (but a bit too over the top for my liking) and at times can be very affordable / downright cheap.

Haven't tried all the restaurants but the cantonese fine dining restaurant is quite good although not that friendly.

Bottom line if you're staying in houjie for anything other than a convention I would suggest sheraton or hj intl hotel

“More than adequate business hotel in a great location relative to the Exhibition centre.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 May 2010

I was booked into this Hotel by some Chinese colleagues of mine as we were attending an exhibition at the Dongguan exhibition centre. I have to admit to being quite dubious before check in, I would normally stay in an International chain, but was pleasantly surprised by the Hotel.

Unusually this Hotel has two complete and separate lobbies, one being the result of a recent extension, it also has 2 separate towers. If you are looking for a hotel that is located near the exhibition centre as it is actually across the road directly opposite. Many of the hotels in this are make the boast of being close, but this is the only hotel that truly is.

The staff on check-in were friendly and spoke very good English. The lobby, like nearly all I have visited in China is magnificent and an ostentatious monument to Capitalism. I was upgraded to their equivalent of a Club room which was very luxurious, definitely 5 Star anywhere in the world. You can see by the pictures, but the room was very large and featured: flat screen TV, King Sized bed, Spa bath, powder room and good work area. Internet access was free and also very important to me is that the Hotel has CNN, BBC and other English TV Channels.

There were 4 or 5 Restaurants in the Hotel, I tried the cafe in the Lobby for Buffet Breakfast and dinner as well as the downstairs Chinese restaurant. The Chinese food was excellent Cantonese style cooking but very basic. The breakfast left a bit to be desired in my opinion, lots of bacon and eggs as well as Asian style breakfast, some cereal.. Lots of quantity but a bit short on quantity. Actually breakfast in the cafe is bedlam with so many visitors, if you're on you own and you go back for seconds you will more than likely lose your table!

As far as the other amenities are concerned I cannot really say I tried many of them. The Hotel is Chinese and I was put off visiting the Spa by the leaflet in my room that boasted prostate massages.. Umm.. No thanks! The Hotel also has a KTV Karaoke centre and the area surrounding the Hotel is made up almost exclusively of karaoke bars and massage centres. (If this is your first visit to China, please look into what the local version of "karaoke" entails before attending).

I did indulge a couple of times in foot massages at the attached "Foot care centre" located off the hotel driveway. This was a great experience with a 1hr foot massage setting me back about USD$8 this was perfect after a long day at the exhibition.

The area itself around the Hotel is nothing flash, I was advised by my colleagues that theft is rife and keeping your belongings in view at all times is not advisable but mandatory! I spoke to a colleague who managed to grab her laptop back at the exhibition hall before someone pinched.

Over all I would definitely class this as a perfect place to base yourself if you are attending an exhibition across the road. There is no need to leave the Hotel and it is very comfortable. Just please keep in mind that wherever you stay in the area, this is is a very Industrial and out of the way city.

“Great Value for the room, but food isn't up to standard”

I stayed there for 3 nights for a show across the street. Overall, the staff are good, but mmanagement still very backward.
I sat at the soft area with my eye closed while I was waiting for my vendor, the management got someone to tell me there is no *sleeping* at the lobby.

As for food, maybe it was lack of traveler during my stay, most of the buffet food were cold.

“Beware of money exchange”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 March 2009

Beware of having money exchanged in this hotel as we received fake 100 notes which the hotel refused to refund despite having the receipt for the transaction.
This resulted in having to spend our last evening in the local Police station whom retained the notes.
