A few little glitches prevent me from giving it a 4. We chose this hotel for location. Suggestion to the hotel - please describe your rooms properly on your website with appropriate photos.
Traveling as a family we originally booked 2 Studio Suite rooms with Club floor access for 4 nights. On shown both rooms we were very disappointed - there are no views whatsoever so don't trust the blurb on the website that says you get City Views. Both rooms were a long way from each other and both looked across to a boring apartment building.
I went down to reception & opted to pay to up grade to 2 Premier suites. The new rooms were next to each other which was handy. If I wanted to pay, what we ended up paying, I would have chosen The Wyndam.
There were still some problems even after we had checked into the rooms I paid an upgrade for. To be fair the hotel did contact us by email to appologise, but after our 4 night stay it would have been better to amends during our stay not after we had checked out.
The Premier suites were nice and came with a part lake view and part of the building across from us. Their rooms looked directly into ours, not very private.
Both rooms were spacious & the beds comfy, The bathroom was lovely but the shower leaked thru & onto the toilet floor so we had to put towels down each morning to soak up the excess water.
In certain rooms the mini bar is complimentary according to the hotel - but it applies to the items in the fridge only ( ie soft drink ) not the other items such as chocolate bars. Obviously people can get caught out by this because I witnessed a big argument by a guest trying to check out and faced with a mini bar bill - he thought everything was complimentary. Understandable - the hotel should put a note in the mini bar stating this fact.
The front reception desk staff were not friendly. The Concierge staff very helpful and nice. The Continental Club Floor was very good - attentive staff with in the lounge itself. The reception staff were a bit hit & miss - some excellent & some not. Martha was very helpful and a big thankyou to her.
The breakfast was very good and there was a great variety of nice foods in the evening. A very nice place to relax at the end of long days.
Check out on the Club Floor - delays. What should have taken 10 minutes took more than 1/2 hour and nearly caused us to miss our flights.
The location is excellent. You are not far from the center of Xiamen. To walk around the lake area is a big plus. Lots of restaurants & shops nearby. The line of restaurants opposite the hotel & facing the lake can be expensive.
I really struggled to rate the Marco Polo. Was very nearly a 4 but I have to take into account how happy we were with out stay. So So.
