“Ok, but not more”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 December 2010

Just stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in the middle of December 2010. After cleared out some misunderstanding in the beginning which was handled very professional by the staff our stay in Fuzhou quite nice.

It's far from a new hotel which you really can see. The carpet feels to so dirty I was afraid it would eat anything I'll put there. The shower cabin is rather small but it do it's job. I must say we never ran out of toilet products - never I have seen so many products in a hotel room.

The bed is a bit more hard than I have experienced in China - it's not too hard but just a bit more hard than normal.

Another reviewer reported problems with the heating. They must have turned it on or fixed something, we never had problems with heating.

The staff are all very friendly and helpful and beside the dirty carpet I felt everything nice and clean.

I'm so glad my stay was for vacation and not business. They deliver cabled (no wi-fi available) Internet access and claim it's at least 10 MBit/s. Don't know if it's true but the quality of line is bad, most times I had packet drop of about 10% to European sites.

Agree with most, that it's more 3 star than 5 star hotel.

Would I stay at this hotel on next visit in Fuzhou: Likely but mostly because I feel it's some of the best in Fuzhou city.

“Why no heating in the winter?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2010

I have been noticing that it is always cold in China hotels, expecially in the south, during the winter. Whether the outside temperature is under 10 degrees Celsius or not has no importance. "The heating is not working ;very sorry" - No other explanation or reason.
I checked in on 28th Jan 2010, arriving late with a client from Shanghai. I was given a damp room, that smelled like an ashtray on the northern side. I woke up trembling and frozen at 2.00 am and discovered the heating was just cold air coming into the room. I made a scandal on the phone to reception, got no explanation as to why there was no heating, was told "sorry, the hotek is full" and was relocated to a junior suite on the excecutive floor. There is also no heating in this room although it is nicer, dryer and does not smell of tobacco. I will however be asking reception why there is no heating in this supposingly 5 star hotel.

“I've stayed in better barracks while serving in the U.S. Marine Corps”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 February 2009

Following check-in at the clean and well lit lobby I was directed to my room - a dark, musty smelling cave complete with a stained, high mileage carpet.
Use of my laptop for internet access was precluded by the hard wired computer on the desk - which by the way, was incapable of accessing the internet.
Upon entering the dining area, I was immediately greeted by stained and worn carpeting throughout the entire expanse (notice a pattern here?). The breakfast and dinner buffets were not much better than OK. Some of the food items appeared dried-out or over cooked, thus, giving me the impression food was being recycled from one dinner to the next. The a la cart menu is grossly overpriced for the fare being served.
Housekeeping was freely accessing my room despite the "Do Not Disturb" sign left posted on my door.
I was awakened about 3 am every morning due to a brief loss of power in the hotel (it was shutting off my breathing machine) . In fact, the desk staff had to hand write an invoice at check-out time because the printer was inoperable (power outage).
I've stayed at many hotels over the last 10 year sin China, S. Korea and Japan. Other than the roach hotel I stayed at in Zhuhai last year, this is the worst.

“More 3 stars than a 5 stars hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2008

Well, I usually book an hotel, twice a week in 2 different cities of China because of business and I can tell you: Ramada Plaza is a chinese "western" hotel which advertise the fact that they are a 5 stars plaza (I'm wondering how) but definitely no more than 3 stars regarding the western standard: old fashioned, bathroom of the 80s, school nearby + bad windows = wake up early in the morning. Staff was pleasant though. Make your choice!
