I have been noticing that it is always cold in China hotels, expecially in the south, during the winter. Whether the outside temperature is under 10 degrees Celsius or not has no importance. "The heating is not working ;very sorry" - No other explanation or reason.
I checked in on 28th Jan 2010, arriving late with a client from Shanghai. I was given a damp room, that smelled like an ashtray on the northern side. I woke up trembling and frozen at 2.00 am and discovered the heating was just cold air coming into the room. I made a scandal on the phone to reception, got no explanation as to why there was no heating, was told "sorry, the hotek is full" and was relocated to a junior suite on the excecutive floor. There is also no heating in this room although it is nicer, dryer and does not smell of tobacco. I will however be asking reception why there is no heating in this supposingly 5 star hotel.
