I always believe that the Shangri La brand will and can deliver credible service, and this Fuzhou outfit did not disappoint. The design of the hotel is first-class and the rooms are big and comfortable. Service with a smile is ubiquitous throughout the hotel, with nice touches such as the bellboy bringing me in person to the air ticket office when I asked for it. This is almost what I'd call personable service, but obviously some staff in the restaurants are less well-trained and often draw a blank when I request for simple things like a cafe latte with skim milk, or a western soup spoon for my ox-tail soup instead of a Chinese spoon.
Location wise, this hotel is near a famous square in Fuzhou and very near some good eateries and a main street with shopping and eating. Fuzhou can be considered a liveable and beautiful city, and you can see it's very much manicured to show its status as the provincial capital of one of the riches provinces of China. The Shang is befitting to this revamped city, and given that rates remain this competitive, I'd likely stay at this hotel again, especially after their new Phases 2 and 3 startup in the next few years.
