I stayed here for 3 nights before and after flying to Antarctica. It is central and comfortable, but very noisy. The first night I faced the parking lot next door. There was construction and car alarms kept going off all day. I moved and they put me above the pub, which was noisy all night, and off the reception, which had music playing all day. Nice people, free Internet and standard continental breakfast included but $95US is very pricey for S. America. Nothing much in Punta Arenas. That is, they do have a few streets of shops and standard banks and airline office, a few restaurants which were okay but not much to see. I walked to the Sarah Braun house and municipal cemetery for lack of anything else to do. The weather was lousy, windy, cold and rainy, and I couldn't change my flight out so killed time doing laundry! If you can afford it, fly to Antarctica with Dap/ Victory Expeditions for $2500US for the day or $3500US for overnight at the Chilean research base. Great people, knowledgable guides, fascinating land and flight, got right up to penguins and elephant seals, comfortable accommodation and faster than a boat trip.
