“Location, Price and facilities”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2011

Hotel is in a good spot not far from the main square price was reasonable 60,000 chilean pesos no surcharge for foreigners same price for all ...comfortable clean staff very friendly and helpful restaurant not up to standard and breakfast service a bit hit and miss all kitchen staff are very young felt not really interested in giving a good service on 1st night we were only offered rabbit or conger for dinner!
Suggest Spanish resatuant in main sq and a few restaurants in road adjacent to the casino very reasonabley priced

“Nice, Serviceable Hotel near Center of Town.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 March 2011

Just spent the night here after a spectacular stay at in a Yurt in Torres Del Paine so the Hotel Isla Rey Jorge was a bit of a come down. But it's a very nice place with some old fashioned charm. My room was pretty good with large bed and bathroom. Nothing here to complain or rave about. Usually a stay in Punta Arenas is a transit to some awesome outdoor journey.

My only issue is the room was seriously overheated and I slept with a light sheet and windows open in Patagonia!

“Disgusting Smell”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 May 2010

Positive: central location, helpful stuff. Negative: disgusting (as for me, hardly bearable) smell of an old house in the lobby and in the room, old furniture, dusty artificial flowers, dirty carpets. For the money you pay them there are much nicer places here.

“A nice hotel in a good part of town”

This is a really nice hotel in a convenient part of Punta Arenas. I see other reviewers found it noisy - perhaps we were lucky, but our top floor room faced the back, looking over Punta Arenas sound and the waiting cruise ships, and we slept very well. The room wasn't enormous, but it was well furnished and clean. The staff were friendly and helpful, and helped us out when we needed local advice. The breakfast buffet was also very good. We were very happy overall during our 5 nights there, and would probably go back if we returned to Punta Arenas.

“noisy but nice”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 April 2008

I stayed here for 3 nights before and after flying to Antarctica. It is central and comfortable, but very noisy. The first night I faced the parking lot next door. There was construction and car alarms kept going off all day. I moved and they put me above the pub, which was noisy all night, and off the reception, which had music playing all day. Nice people, free Internet and standard continental breakfast included but $95US is very pricey for S. America. Nothing much in Punta Arenas. That is, they do have a few streets of shops and standard banks and airline office, a few restaurants which were okay but not much to see. I walked to the Sarah Braun house and municipal cemetery for lack of anything else to do. The weather was lousy, windy, cold and rainy, and I couldn't change my flight out so killed time doing laundry! If you can afford it, fly to Antarctica with Dap/ Victory Expeditions for $2500US for the day or $3500US for overnight at the Chilean research base. Great people, knowledgable guides, fascinating land and flight, got right up to penguins and elephant seals, comfortable accommodation and faster than a boat trip.
