We stayed here for 1 night on route to Torres Del Paine.
We arrived at Puento Arena’s airport and our guide and driver took us to Puerto Natales which is approx 3-4 hours drive away. On route we stopped at the Seno Otway penguin colony and it was great to see all the penguins, really good fun. Afterwards we stopped for lunch in the middle of nowhere! We both had soup, sandwich and a hot drink and I felt it was quite expensive at about £20, however you have to remember how remote you are.
We arrived at the Charles Darwin and although the gentleman at reception couldn’t speak a lot of english, he was very pleasant and helpful. We stayed in room 314 and as there were no lifts he did help me by carrying my suitcase, he did attempt to carry them both but we stopped him as I don’t think he would have made it!
Our room was a twin room and although very basic, it was clean, warm, had a TV, fridge/mini bar and safe. The beds were extremely comfortable. Next to our room was a lounge where they were fantastic views across the Sound. This room also had a computer and free Wi-Fi.
After reading some of the reviews regarding breakfast, I was expecting the worse. However, I was pleasantly surprised. It contained all the usual items and yes the orange juice was not fresh but what they had was nice. In fact, the scrambled eggs were the best I had in Chile, so top marks from me.
We did have a wonder around the town and found a range of restaurants, shops and mini supermarkets but didn’t really find anything to do. You are recommended to stock up on biscuits, sweets etc before heading to Torres Del Paine as it is very expensive there.
We would recommend this hotel.
