After reading the glowing reviews on here, we decided to leave our $12 a night room for a $10 one here. The prices fluctuate with the number of tourists in town or holidays, so you may see $8 - $15 for a private room. That $10 got us a nice room on the top floor called "paradise", and it certainly felt like it after long, hot days cycling to and from Angkor Wat. AC, Western TV, 2 full sized beds with great mattresses, hot shower, and a closet were included in that price. Our room faced a large, covered patio that was really nice for sipping drinks with a book to get out of the heat. Our room was always quiet, as the staff are very good about making sure the noise from the bar in the front yard stops promptly at 11:00. Speaking of the staff, Mark and his crew were second to none when it comes to great service: making sure we had a room (not too easy!), keeping us in said room as we kept piling days on to our initial stay, keeping our $10 price grandfathered in as prices rose for Christmas, helping arrange tours, pouring a pint or three of Angkor, cooking us great breakfasts...you name it and they probably did it, and always without complaint. The location is a nice 5 minute walk to Pub Street, meaning the loudest thing you'll here at night are usually the barking dogs roaming the streets. Staying at the Downtown also gets you access to any of the Golden Banana Resort's five (!) pools next door for just the price of a drink or nosh. Chelle's biggest complaint is the fact you can find hotels with pools on-site and a refrigerator in the room for about $12. It's true, but the extra level of service you get here is something you'll be hard pressed to find anywhere else. Highly recommended.
