“Lovely surroundings . . . shame about the restaurant”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 April 2011

I loved this hotel for it's lush surroundings and charming decor.

The rooms were well appointed and very clean.

Free WIFI which was very good.

We had a few drinks on arrival and decided to take a look down at Angkor Wat. On returning we chose to have dinner in their restaurant - which was an awful mistake. I had one of the chef's specialities - something with pork and fish - it sounded really good. What arived was luke warm grey slop. It was pretty tasteless and had clearly been chucked in the microwave. Also had the regional banana leaf salad speciality which was also rather tasteless . . . I had tasted great Khmer food in my hotel the night before in Phnom Penh so felt very let down here. The meal for the 3 of us was about USD 50 and was definitely the most expensive and disappointing of our trip.

Breakfast was pretty good though - rather basic, but good.

The locatoin is far from Pub Street (def not walking distance) which is where you should go to get a good meal, have a few drinks, and also do some tourist shopping.

At check-out there was a lovely touch in that they gave a framed photo of us which they took at check-in. This was a really nice touch and lovely souvenir.

Room Tip: Didnt get an upgrade.

“A beautiful hotel in a verdant setting”

I can go on and on about all the wonderful features of this hotel!. Yes, it was pricier than any of the other hotels that we stayed in during our recent trip to Cambodia and Vietnam but we did not regret our decision to stay here for even a second. After a full day of walking and sightseeing around the Angkor temples, it felt really good to return to this tranquil hotel to swim, relax, enjoy a cocktail at the bar and also dine in if one did not have the energy to step out to a restaurant. The rooms were large and very tastefully done up. The service from the friendly and ever smiling staff was faultless. We were also very pleased with the tour guide that they lined up for us; he was knowledgeable, had a reasonable command over English and happily answered our myriad different questions. The night we arrived in Siem Rep, by the time we checked into the hotel, it was 10 pm and the hotel's dining room had just closed. However, the kitchen staff was kind enough to put together a quick dinner for us (very flavorful and fresh chicken pho and several other dishes) so that we did not go to bed hungry! From the hotel, it is just a 10 min tuk-tuk ride to the Old Quarter; there are plenty of tuk-tuks available just outside the gates of the hotel and it costs just $2 for the ride. I would highly recommend this hotel to other visitors.
Shopping tip: If you are looking for some nice silk scarves and high quality souveniers, go to the Artisan's village (approx 15 mins by tuk-tuk from the hotel). It carries some really beautiful stuff at fixed price. The other big shops in town that I went to were ridiculously over-priced and the touristy stuff available in the Old Market was not very appealing.

“can get better in Siem Reap for this money”

Booked the hotel directly from the website, selected the 'budget' rooms that they market as smaller than the standard room, for the budget conscious travellers (still they are NOT cheap, so we expected a reasonable room, just without a lot of space). In reality the space is more than enough, but a lot else is missing: these rooms are old and not well maintained. windows and doors don't close properly, so mosquitos come to make a big party in your room; you hear every noise since these rooms face the street; electricity plugs are scarily hanging. We ultimately decided to upgrade to a standard room which was much better and definitively enjoyable, but for the total cost that we I'm sure that we could have had other solutions in siem Reap. Thehotel in general is ok, although the lack of TVs in rooms is quite strange. Also they charge for wireless Internet connection which is free in almost every other place in town. My impression is that a lot of investment is done in the new Angkor Village Resort, they put up a fantastic new web site, but this area of the Angkor Village Hotel is just left to its destiny and that of the brave tourists that dare to book it.

“Tranquil Cambodia style hotel.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 November 2010

This is the quietest hotel I have ever stayed at! We did wonder at one point if we were the only ones staying at the hotel, but we did see some other guests and it was the quiet season. The hotel is located about a 5 minute tuk tuk ride from the centre of Siem Reap. The hotel is very tranquil and luxurious. From the outside it looks like the hotel is located in its own forest. The rooms are very nice and of a very good standard and we were given a free fruit basket daily. The breakfast was fantastic and you could choose as many options off the menu as you wanted! The hotel owns a theatre which is located across the road from the hotel and there is a traditional Cambodian dance show and dinner every evening. This was very good and interesting to see. The staff were friendly and you felt that they were genuinely interested in how you were what you had planned for that day. Nothing was too much trouble for them!

“Enjoyable stay at the Angkor Village”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2010

We very much enjoyed our stay here. On arrival the staff were welcoming and friendly and this continued throughout our stay.
The room was very spacious, however I was surprised that there was no tv - unusual for a hotel of this standard (don't watch tv that much on holiday but do like to check out the news, etc). The bathroom was also very spacious but the shower did not drain and completely flooded the bathroom each time I used it.
We did use the swimming pool a couple of times and that was very pleasant - it is small for the size of hotel but we went in low season so can't complain as plenty of room for us! We were disappointed that after advertising how we could go to the giant pool at the sister hotel then there was not a complimentary shuttle over there.
The view from our room (across to the restaurant) was lovely and the decor & general ambience of the hotel is great.
Breakfast in the mornings was fabulous, plenty of choices which were freshly cooked and a great start to the day. Did not eat dinner in the hotel, but went across the road to the theatre one night. It's very much a tourist trap with average food - but I still enjoyed it!
