“Beautiful hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

As with other reviews you can not argue with the amazing grandeur of this hotel. The rooms are large clean and well maintained with small balconies to sit out on. The location is a little out of town about a $3 tuk tuk ride each way. The swimming pool and dining area was clean and very relaxing. The breakfast catered for all, there was nothing you couldnt find. We ate there a couple of times and while the food was nice it did arrive a little cold and as other reviewers have pointed out the 20% surcharge was a little cheeky. There is definatly better places to eat. However there was a waiter in Dynasty bar called Chy Channa who was extremely helpfull, he told us a lot about Cambodia and the people, he was polite friendly and made a fantastic cocktail, many thanks Channa.

“A Few Rough Edges”

Empress Angkor is a beautiful hotel, with an amazing lobby (complete with welcome drinks when you arrive), swimming pool, fitness centre, free wifi, souvenir shop, complimentary breakfast and beautiful spacious rooms. It is a little way out of Siem Reap centre, on the main road and closer to the airport and Angkor complex. The staff are professional and very well presented. We experienced three disappointments, however, that stopped this from being a 5 star review.

First, the shower temperature fluctuates wildly from too hot to freezing cold. The rooms are not very well soundproofed (we could hear everything going on in the neighbouring bathroom, for instance). The biggest disappointment, though, was the restaurant. The breakfasts were lovely, with ample servings and plenty of choices. We ate dinner there three times, though, and for the price of meals (20% service charge not included!), the food simply wasn't good enough, and we aren't very fussy eaters! I ordered a Nasi Goreng for room service that I would have sent back had we been in the restaurant - the chicken skewers arrived cold, and were simply indelible for they were full of gristle. My husband ordered a club sandwich which did not contain all the ingredients as described on the menu. These sound like small gripes, and they are, but when charging $10 or more for a simple meal (enormously expensive for Siem Reap), it is important to get the food right.

Overall, I would say the rooms represent very good value for money (we booked via asiarooms.com and paid $70 per night for a deluxe room), the 'wow factor' is there, but I would give the restaurant a miss.

“Great value with nice surprises”

The lobby is a beautiful, expansive space, which is helpful because there are often tours being met and organized so it would otherwise feel crowded. The public spaces in this hotel are generous enough to accommodate the traffic.

The hidden gems here are 1) great massage facilities. Prices are about twice what you pay in town, but worth it for the convenience and nice setting. The gym and other facilities are unremarkable but OK considering the price point 2) the bar off the lobby is wonderful for a relaxing cocktail. The drinks are pricey so even the happy hour will set you back, but it's manageable, and 3) the pool is very nice. There is a shady corner and plenty of space to lie around.

There was some construction while we were there, but otherwise our stay was perfect.

Free internet use throughout the hotel, but no service by the pool.

Room Tip: Facing the pool gives a nicer view but will expose you to event noise. Wasn't a huge problem wh...

“Great location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

Our recent stay at the Empress was good, the location of the hotel is far enough out of the city to be quiet, but close enough that a short 15 minute tuk tuk ride gets you into the centre for restaurants, sight seeing, markets, etc...
The rooms are large and clean, the room we had was an adjoining rooms which were good. The water cannot be drunk but they supply plenty of bottled water . The drainage of the shower, bath and sinks were poor, which was annoying with 5 having showers, the floor was like a bath.
The banquet breakfast was very good, with a wide range of food available for all preferences. I especially enjoy asian foods when travelling so had the choice of noodle soup with various meats each morning for our long days.
The hotel was close to the friendship road which leads to the temples, and across the road to the cultural centre (would not recommend - unless with children, and not translated to english).
In the city there is plenty to do, the night markets are great, a wide range of things to see and buy, the 'pub steet' has some great restaurants, the old markets were fun to see the foods being prepared and sold, and the clothes, silverware was everywhere for sale.
We visited the landmine museum which I would recommend to learn about the khmer rouge history and the ongoing issues with landmines in the area.

Room Tip: We had a room facing the pool which was good, although if there is an event at the pool (like new ye...

“Simply Fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

What a great hotel. The price is great for a double room, ours included a full buffet breakfast and airport transfers. The rooms are a great size, fully equipped, and comfortable. The rooms have balconies but we warned if you open them (lizards, flies and mosquitoes will barge in the room within 10 seconds of opening you door) The hotel does warn you of this. Nice swimming pool, nice lounge and nice restaurant. The breakfast buffet is traditional food to the region but many options. Staff is very friendly, very helpful and always around. We got massages done to, it's more expensive than somewhere outside but it's clean and safe. I highly recommend this beautiful hotel, with its wood finishes and comfortable and clean setting. You can't go wrong with the price too and it's centrally located.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the street side if you want a little more peace and quiet.
