“Great Guide Service”

I am a photographer wannabe, and this was the first photo tour I have ever booked, in spite of my extensive travels over the years. I booked 2 tours - Angkor Wat and Kompong Khleang - we had great guides for both trips.

Angkor Wat - our guide (Sorn) got us to the front of the temple before the crowds arrived - which was essential as we would not have had a good site to setup camera otherwise. After sunrise he led us around the temple in a way where we caught the light for several hours afterwards. All the crowds were eating breakfast so we had a lot of the temple to ourselves.

The second tour was to Kompong Khleang on Tonle Sap lake. This was the highlight of our trip. The guide (Ta) took us to several markets on the way - the people were exceptionally friendly, and we were always the center of attraction where-ever we stopped. After eventually arriving at Kompong Khleang and taking a boat out to a floating fish market on Tonle Sap, where we stayed for about an hour. Ta was knowledgeable and we were always engaged in long conversations with the villagers - a great guide.

So when I got home, it was very noticeable to me that I had more "keeper" phots than I've ever had before - something about being in the right place at the right time!

We didn't stay at their guesthouse, but I'd recommend Peace of Angkor as a photo guide service without reservation.

“Couldn't find a fault”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 December 2009

Dave is a perfectionist and his guesthouse is the prime example of this. As you enter the spotless lounge to go upstairs you feel like you are about to meet royalty. The decorations are superb.. Amazingly clean and a class act. The tours above excellent and Dave has great knowledge of the surrounds. Quiet location and spotlessly clean. Unbelievable for the price.

“Excellent for photographers - highly recommended”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2009

The rooms are nice, clean and comfortable. I enjoyed staying there.
The only negative was that the staff was not very reliable on wake-up calls or getting things like breakfast, take-ways and the like done on time, which can be a little distracting when you have your guide and driver - who were exactly on time - waiting for you.

The tours are EXCELLENT. Let me repeat that: the tours are EXCELLENT. I had four different guides, all were very knowledgeable both wrt temple history and where the good sights are. Most important, they let me take my time (I was taking every shot from a tripod and I'm sure they needed a lot of patience sometimes :-) and were always very helpful, sometimes even carried my bag(!). They made helpful suggestions which I appreciated, but always let me do "my thing" and were never offended when I disregarded their advice :-)

If this is your first trip to Angkor and you want to take good pictures, this is probably the best place to go! I know I'm going to get back there if I rever travel to Cambodia again.

“Siem reap, Cambodia, Angkor Wat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 September 2009

We had a wonderful week in Cambodia last fall 2008. Though we went to see the fabulous ruins of Angkor Wat, we were most moved by seeing firsthand the spirit of the Cambodian people who have endured so much and have such high hopes for the future. We had a wonderful, kind guide Sorn Ke Nit who accompanied us daily. Ke Nit is married and a loving father of 4 . He, like so many Cambodians, is a survivor of the Killing Fields. His personal story is compelling and heartbreaking. Ke Nit has been an English speaking (and some Spanish) guide since 2001 in Siem Reap and the areas around. He not only showed us much of Angkor Wat, but also arranged and took us on several fascinating side trips to Lake Tonle Sap and Mount Kulen and farther out ruins. We wish we could have stayed longer. Ke Nit's information:
Mobile Phone: [--]
E-mail: [--]
Language: English and a little Spanish
Specialize in: Guiding tours, hotel arrangement, all transportation around Angkor area and many other parts of Cambodia.
We stayed in the Peace of Angkor Villa which was homey, attractive, safe, relaxing and very reasonable. The kind staff was helpful and welcoming in every way.
I would definitely recommend hiring a native guide as you will see and learn so much more and be much safer and have someone to explain local differences and customs and history to you.

“Great accomodation, Misleading on Tours...”

Like other reviews, this small guesthouse is charming and quaint. Free pick-up from the Mekong Express Bus Station was greatly appreciated. We enjoyed the location, being off the main drag, as Peace of Angkor is in a more quiet area. We had dinner one night in their restaurant--good selection and good food.

When booking with the guesthouse & Den, we explicitly asked to book photographic tours and made it 100% clear we were photographers. In fact, the only reason we chose to stay at Peace of Angkor was for it's self-advertised unique photographic tours that cater to photographers. Upon check-in, we were asked to pay in full for our upcoming tours. Fine. The first morning, we realized our "Photographic Tour" was nothing more than the standard van-and-tour-guide anyone can book, but we were charged quite high prices for this "photography tour." It wasn't the tourguide's fault--he was quite good and very knowledgeable of the temples. But he said he had never touched a camera in his life!!

Peace of Angkor Villa grossly misrepresented what kind of tour we were getting. At the end of the day, we asked if we could cancel the next day's tour, as it was going to be the same thing--not catering to a photographer one bit. Den let us know we could cancel, but they would not refund our pre-paid money. We were quite frank with him about misrepresenting what kind of tour we would get--the HUGE discrepancy between what we paid for and what we received.

We would have appreciated honesty--perhaps all the photographer-guides were booked or something. But no one gave us an explanation and instead tried to send us out with a complete NON-photographer without saying anything. Providing us with an explanation, a refund and apology would have solved the problem. Instead, no apology, no refund, only feelings of being deceived and taken for our money. Had we known we would not receive a photography-specific tour, we wouldn't have booked here in the first place. The single reason we booked here was for this particular tour which they advertised.

We feel that this problem was completely avoidable and very regrettable. I'm sure many people have actually received great photography tours. I would stay here for the actual property. But as for the photography tours, make sure you actually get what you pay for.

  • Liked — Free pick-up, Nice-sized rooms & Bathrooms
  • Disliked — Not receiving tour we paid for and being tricked about it

It is regrettable that the guests were not happy with their tour. There was no requests at all in their several email communications that they wanted any special photographic input in the tour .
We always ask in busy periods that Custom photo tours are booked in advance. The guide we allocated them is very experienced and took the guests to the best photographic spots of Angkor and gave his extensive knowledge of Angkor as they so rightly pointed out.

We are not and never have been, photographic training centre; but lead photographers to the best spots at Angkor with regard to the lighting conditions and to avoid the crowds so far as possible . We do offer tours and support to professional , advanced amateur photographers , non photographers and family groups. Our clients have expressed a high degree of satisfaction with our services.

They did not complain to our manager on the first day as they stated; but wanted to do a short day on the morning of the second day. Only then did the mother state they did not get the photo support they were expecting; but stated the guides knowledge was very good.

Our professional staff dealt with the complaint in a fair and reasonable way giving both an apology and a partial refund before they commenced the tour on the second morning .

To say that we had deliberately deceived the guests and grossly misrepresented our tours is unreasonable and to say we did not offer a refund and apology is totally untrue.
