“Good location, gr8 pool, could be a gr8 hotel but the staff let it down a bit... don't overpay”
When you first arrive you may think this hotel is off the beaten track in a side street, but in the daylight you discover it is actually within easy walking distance, or a $1 tuk tuk ride from the main drag if you are feeling lazy...
The rooms are a really good size, a bit dark as they are made of dark wood panelling, but that's also quite cosy, and ours had a small wooden balcony. The bed was large and comfortable, with comfy pillows and pretty clean with good aircon. The shower was powerful but hot water was lacking and did not usually make it through one person's shower, and certainly not two!
The pool is a great bonus and is what attracted us, (that and the apparent availability of wi-fi) fantastic after a hot dusty day of temple watching.
The main disappointment with this hotel is the staff. They are polite but not very informative, we asked them a few questions on arrival but soon gave up - some of which were simple local things they should really have known, and on the couple of ocassions when we had a problem it was not resolved. The wi-fi in our room didn't work as promised and we tried explaining this several times, first time - "I will speak to the manager", next morning? Nothing. Next time, nothing, then "you speak to manager in the morning" - but the manager was never there and and we never got the wifi.
The other simpler minor but somewhat essential (!) time was when the maids forgot to leave us any toilet roll, we mentioned it to the reception as we went out for the evening and he said he would sort it but when we got back that evening there was still none... this should be well within the powers of a hotel reception to sort this out!! LOL!
Fortunately having been on the road for a while now we always have some stashed away... silly things but the point being the lack of attentiveness to their customers...
The longest and possibly only conversation you will have wth them is when they are trying to sell you a tuk-tuk ride to the temples - which happens on a daily basis from morning to night... and certainly the only one initiated by them...
Overall we were happy with this hotel as somewhere to come back to for a good nights' sleep but you could almost be stayng in a standalone bungalow for the contact you have with the staff.
Strange as the Cambodians on the whole are amazingly friendly with a wicked sense of humour and generally love to engage in conversation... perhaps it was lack of confidence?
We felt we got good value as we only paid $20, but don't pay more than $20 for the room as you can get better for more.
