“Good room in a good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 March 2011

I stayed here for 5 nights in March 2011. I took a single room with fan and hot water shower for $9, they have a range of rooms at different prices - some without hot water are cheaper whereas those with AC are at least 3 dollars more expensive.

The en suite room was a good size and well-appointed, with TV, cupboard, bedside table and Khmer art on the walls, also with traditionally patterned bedclothes. Because it was quite a big room the fan didn't cool it as much as in some of the other places I've stayed, so if you need it cool to sleep comfortably probably best to shell out the extra for an A/C room.

In the lobby as a few of the other reviews have mentioned there are usually a few tuk-tuk drivers looking for business. I did go on a tour to Banteay Srei with one such driver and it went well. The days I didn't want to go on a tour I just said no thanks and waved as I walked through. I found the guesthouse staff to be variable; some were quite friendly but others were less so, and the service in the restaurant could be better. The wi-fi worked in the lobby and restaurant but was a bit temperamental, and there was no signal in my room on the 3rd floor.

One word of warning for anyone coming here from Poipet: I took a taxi with Capitol Tour (who have an office at the guesthouse) and the driver went as far as another guesthouse on the outskirts of Siem Reap and told me I had to get out there and take a tuk-tuk the rest of the way. Don't pay up-front for the taxi, because they don't go where they say they will! I bought a bus ticket to Battembang through the guesthouse and this trip was free of problems.

“A pleasant surprise with the value paid. Will return definitely!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 December 2010

My friends and I went for the 2010 Angkor Wat Int Run. I stayed in a room with two single beds that I shared with a friend. We chose a room with hot water so that sets us back USD14 per night. We stayed for 2 nights.

Good points:
1. I arrived at the guesthouse at 845am and was given my room immediately despite it was checked in under my friend's name who was due to arrive at 1pm.
2. Room was on 3rd floor n the only way up was by stairs. No issues since I only had a backpack and a trolley bag. Trolley bag was filled with stationaries to be donated to a home in Siem Reap.
3. The single bed was HUGE!! Can fit 2 small people. There was an airconditioner n fan. It was not too humid so fan was comfortable too. No comforter but just a single thin sheet of blanket. Enough I would say for the weather.
4. Check in was just writing ur name on a formal 'guestbook'. You can see other traveler from other countries there and also their designated occupations (bogus too I might add). Shows that the guesthouse is totally laid back. There was an Australian guy claiming he is a tuktuk driver. Yeah sure- tons of tuktuks in sydey ya mate?? Lol
5. Wifi is free in the lobby. U can't get wifi in ur room unless ur on the 2nd floor near then lobby. Another friend of mine had that room in 201 and she can happily access the free wifi there. And might I say, the wifi speed is surprisingly fast.
6. Staff are pleasant, friendly, and eager to please. My favorite is Pol who had a good command of English and so eager to please and learn. He'd go above n beyond to assist my group on transportation n bags and transfers etc. Just name it, he'll help u. He's quite a charmer too and to some, a flirt. All in good fun. He told us of his dream to have his own guesthouse and we were all invited to stay for free in 5 years time.
7. The cafe had a nice range of food at regular price. Try the pumpkin soup and any milkshakes. YUMMY
8. Checkout was easy too. They provide u a bill and u just pay. Don't remember if they accept credit cards though.
9. Location is just nice. Near enough to walk to the center of Siem Reap. Bout 8-10 mins walk. Feel quite safe even at night. Tuktuks can be called/ reserved in advance. 1 dollar or max 4.
10. U can also buy tix to go to Phnom or Sihnouk from the guetshouse.

To note:
1. In my bathroom, the shower didn't work too well. Hot water was there but the water tap couldn't close. So we had to close the main.
2. The water tasted funny (not in a good way). I brushed my teeth and gargled with mineral water just in case.
3. The counter at the lobby is not the check in/out counter. It's only an info counter. Check in counter is at the restaurant which is on the first floor at the garden.

Overall it was pleasant thanks to Pol and his friends. We came with a 100kg load of bags from 4 people. They were for donation to a home in Siem Reap. The guys helped us carry the bags to the 2nd floor and later back down and load into the tuktuks.

Also I went with them to pick up my friends in a van which they sourced for to help carry the 100kg loads in. So nice!!!!

Will definitely return if with friends. Family ok too actually.

“Pass on this place”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2010 via mobile

My boyfriend and I found this place to not live up to its hype. The staff was overly pushy, they were constantly trying to sell us stuff. The room needed to have it's bedding changed and the bathroom was in need of serious repair.

We stayed one night and quickly left the next day only to be given a great deal of attitude by the staff. Very poor customer service.

“Not that popular”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2010

I stayed at this guest house based on reviews on this site. I found the rooms to be average for the price paid. That driver was at the airport to pick me up on time and was a great guy who i used for the 4 days i stayed in Siem Reap. However I found the staff to be some what indifferent and not particularly friendly the Tut tut drivers sitting around the lobby asking where you were going all the time particularly annoying. But perhaps the worst thing was that $10 USD was added to my bill on checkout which magically disappeared when i asked for a calculator to check the bill. I would warn anyone staying here to please check their bill before paying.

“One night at Popular”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 April 2010

I stayed only one night at this guest house. I booked a double AC room for $16/night. Driver was present at the airport on time, came to hotel, dropped the bag, went to Angkor Wat. I rented the tuk tuk through the hotel for whole day for $12. I decided to come back at noon to take rest and went back again in the afternoon. Tuk tuk driver charged me extra $3 for this additional trip back to my hotel for lunch and nap.

Hotel itself was ok, AC and hot water working reasonably well, food at the hotel retaurent was reasonably priced.

They respond to your email request quite promptly. If you are staying on a limited budget, you can stay here. but if you want to hire a tuktuk for sight seeing, I recommend you did it once you arrive in Siem reap. I saw ads saying you can get cheaper Tuk tuk rate, for whole day sight seeing ranging from $8-$12.

If you are on a limited budget, you can stay here.
