Arrived fairly late at night with no reservation,but luckily there was a room available.Was absolutely entranced by this little jewel of a hotel.The propriator offered to cook us a meal,which was delicious.We had the Burma room upstairs,which has a beautiful spacious balcony and use of a large oriental style sitting room,and a large shower room. The decor was fabulous,with huge Bhuddha statues,lush greenery and lots of cushions to sprawl about on.Breakfast was fresh baguettes with delicious homemade fruit conserve.This hotel not for the holiday inn crowd,but if you want a uniquely oriental experience with French flair you will love Secrets of Elephants.Unforgettable!

I stayed at Secrets of Elephants for several nights in January 2008. It is a lovely, homestay-style experience . The rooms are great, the food is wonderful and the staff are sincere and friendly. I cannot recommend this place highly enough if you are looking for a change from the 4-5 star hotel stay. I hired the driver who collected me from the airport, Mr Sokmi, for the duration of my stay and I could not imagine a better guide. Mr Sokmi took me to all the main temples, but also to several of the lesser-known sites where I was often the only visitor. He was extremely professional and very, very protective of me as a single female tourist. My thanks to all the folk at Secrets of Elephants for a wonderful stay. The only (minor) downside is that is it is around 10 minutes bike ride from the main town but I did not find this a problem, as the driver was always available to take me wherever I wanted for a miniscule price. If you are looking for a change from the usual impersonal high-price hotel, I would sincerely recommend you give these people a try. Highly recommended.

I stayed in May 2002 and loved it. The people were nice - Babette and her partner. They arranged a tuk tuk driver for me who was also lovely. Food was great. I liked that it was on the airport road at the time because it was quieter. Though it seems to have built up more on that road now.

We had a wonderful stay at this small hotel. Unlike cookie-cutter hotels that are springing up like mushrooms all over Siem Reap, this hotel has loads of charm. In terms of decor (not conveniences), it gives you the feel of Indochina of early to mid-1900s: wooden furniture, rugs, cushions, jars, buddha statues, terrace, lush vegitation all around, etc. My 13 month old daughter had a ball running all around the specious 2nd floor and terrace. The conveniences are not perfect, but quite decent. We ate at the hotel every meal and loved it. The service we received was excellent and well above our expectations. E.g., the girls who work at the hotel took our little girl off our hands for long periods of time so that we could have a break. They peeled the fruit we bought elsewhere and brough cold coconuts from local vendors for us. We probably abused their goodwill a bit. In my professional life that required a lot of travel, I stayed at all kinds of hotels, including some luxury ones. Yet, this stay was among the most memorable. That said, there are occasional mosquitoes in dark places, so it may not be for everyone.
