“Fantastic escape for a quiet stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

My family just spent three nights at this place and we loved it. It is not a five star place and you should not go expecting that. But we liked it a lot better than the much more expensive five star Raffles where we stayed in Phnom Penh. The common areas have lovely ponds and flowers, the rooms are comfortable, the breakfast choices are many and excellent, the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Its quiet by ten, so not a place for carousing with your friends, but great as a quiet escape from the heat and noise of the temples and Siem Reap.

“If you could stay in a tropical paradise, why wouldn't you?”

My partner and I spent 4 glorious nights at this resort. Without pause, I would say that next to the Oberoi Amarvilas at the Taj Mahal, this has to be the most exquisite place we have ever stayed at. So incredibly landscaped, you REALLY will feel that you've landed in some botanical nirvana. And trust me, after an arduous day traipsing around the temples of Ankor Wat, coming back to this blissful retreat is nothing short of miraculous.

The pool is just incredible as it snakes and winds around the verdant foliage and EVERY ROOM has either a private little cabana or comfy chairs and tables on the pool deck right out there door. I have to be honest, I had some trepidation that the pool area, and the resort itself, might be over-run by kiddies. Once we arrived, we were so relieved that this was a resort definitely for adults to enjoy.

For the life of me, I can't understand why other reviewers complain that it's "far away from town" like that's a BAD thing?!?! First of all, downtown Siem Reap caters to loud, drinking, partying, budget travelers and backpackers? Sure it's fun to go down there and walk around have some drinks and grab dinner and maybe shop a bit, but do you REALLY want to stay in a neighborhood of thumping loud rock music until 4 am every morning? And for the life of me, I will never understand how some tourists think that a 4 mile drive/10 minutes is WAY OUT OF TOWN. And what's worse is they want to gripe and try to get a tuk-tuk (local taxi) for a dollar into town! Please! Give me a break!

You get gorgeous rooms, incredible tropical surroundings, staff who are the total epitome of graciousness (the reception staff, the bellmen, the groundskeepers, EVERYONE bows at you and greets you by your last name whenever you walk by ANY TIME of the day or night!

How some people can find the most miniscule things like-- not enough variety on the breakfast buffet, or that it's a 10 min., $3 tuk-tuk ride to town amazes me.

This place is the very best treat that you can give yourself for your once-in-a-lifetime trip (probaby) to Angkor Wat! SPLURGE for the very best!

Room Tip: Request a COTTAGE room towards the back of the property for the most seclusion.

“Good but far from the city center”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

My tour operator changed our hotel in the last minute before we left home, so I didn't have time to read the reviews about it. I was a little afraid but we had a good surprise. It has a rustic decoration with many and beautiful gardens and a huge swimming pool in a snake shape that passes in front of the rooms!! It is so close, that it is almost a extention of the balcony. The rooms are comfortable although the bathroom becomes completely wet when you take a bath because there isn't a curtain in the shower.
The breakfast is not the best I have seen but is not bad.
It is not in the city center and you have to take a tuc tuc to get there. But it is not a problem because you pay only 2 or 3 dollars for a ride.
As the main attraction of the city is the Agkor Wat Complex, the site of the hotel is better than the ones in the city center, as it is closer to the action.

“Perfectly nice, could use a little upgrade”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in January. The hotel itself is beautiful, we especially liked the pool snaking throughout the grounds. The staff are incredibly friendly, although not the most helpful.

The rooms are nicely laid out, big bathrooms, nice views of the pool. They just feel a bit run down - the beds aren't the most comfortable and a lot of bugs get in the room. That being said, we had a very nice time, it's easy to get into town from the hotel and it's a welcoming place to come back to.

“Depends what you want”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

I will have to do this review in two parts as, having read the reviews of the hotel prior to booking it, I was so looking forward to going there. And was disappointed. So there needs to be one review for serious 5 star people and another for ... not serious 5 star people. That said, the hotel sells itself as a 4.5 star but I would not have given it more than a 3.5

If you are relatively easily pleased, it's fabulous. I'm not. The hotel is set out of Siem Reap proper so there is nowhere to go for a walk if you step out of the door. You HAVE to take a tuk-tuk into town. Whereas the staff are all very friendly and smiley, they are not the most efficient when the chips are down. The safe in our room misfunctioned and wouldn't open and it took 2 members of staff and an hour to understand/get it open. Given that our passports were in there it wasn't optional. Only the staff at reception speak a useful amount of English. Even in the restaurant it is limited to basics. For example, I asked (using sign language as well) for another teabag and got two pots of tea with single teabags. I tried again and got 2 pots of coffee. The breakfasts are meagre and average compared to most places I have stayed in S.E. Asia. The rooms are nice and medium sized. The hotel is not modern, it is styled in a sort of quaint, rustic, Cambodian design. FORGET THE WIFI if this is important. And neither my husband or I could get a phone signal on our mobiles. The WIFI is usable in the lobby area for basics. Room/pool service is efficient but the food, again, is average at best, overpriced and the plates will not be cleared until the following day unless you ring and ask for them to do so. If you eat on your balcony, this means that you will be visited by a large number of the indigenous creepy crawlies, of which there are MANY.

We were at the hotel with our young teenagers over New Years eve and suffice it to say that at midnight we were all in bed watching a movie on TV. The compulsory buffet gala dinner was REALLY disappointing. Again the food was average for the $50 premium that we paid per head and even the soft drinks were extra. The entertainment was Cambodian dancing. Only. Which was nice for 15-20 minutes but not for 1.5 hours. And that was it. Whether or not there were even fireworks, we don't know.

Cambodia is a VERY poor country and there are beggars all over the place and pretty much everyone will try to rip you off. When we checked out we found that we had been charged for things we hadn't had from the mini bar, charged twice for the taxi to the airport and so on. Vigilence is a prerequisite.

On the plus side, the grounds are lovely. This hotel calls itself the Angkor Village Botanical Resort and it's definitely lush. The pool is great but as all the rooms overlook it, the early rising children will be yelling outside your room.

I suspect we were one of the only Briitsh families in the hotel. Pretty much all the rest were French. The menus are also shown in English and French and the manager is French. So I was doubly let down by the standard of the 'cuisine'.

Cambodian food didn't do it for me but that's a personal thing. Also, living in Thailand, I found it comparatively very bland.

And there you go :)
