We had read that this was a very nice place a bit away from the center with a nice pool to refresh from a long day in the Angkor temples.
The place was nice, but the prices were a bit higher that we expected (their prices don't include VAT!!). Also the room was very nice, but at very early in the morning there is a wood factory just on the other side of the wall that starts really early making impossible to sleep after 6h30.
Also , because is fare away from everything, all they have is very expensive. And because you don't have any other place to buy it, you have no chance.
Anyway, the pool is really nice, but deffinitively there must be other "cheap"places in Seam Reap where you can find a quite place with pool.

This is one of the best valued back-packer hotel. The location is not far away from the city, and you can go around by the rented bike with cheap price.
The hotel has a unique foot-shaped swimming pool. A veranda nearby to relax and chat and read books and have a drink.. The bar serves nice juice.
The room itself is very nice. we took a twin-bed room, it was nice and clean and tidy. The staffs were very friendly, we chat and they spoke good english..

Earthwalkers is not run by norwegians with focus on the local society. The review in Lonely Planet as ”our pick” is written when this place was run by norwegians. It is not anymore.

When I booked my trip to Cambodia, I planned to stay in Earthwalkers because of good reviews in papers and in Lonely Planet. . I e-mailed with the norwegian manager at that time, and I got a lot of ideas for my stay in Siem Reap.Just before I arrived, there was some disagreements about some of the owners and the running of the hotel, and norwegian management had to leave Earthwalkers.
The pool is nice, the food was good, but the location was not good at all. And after two days the new management started to argue and yell in the relaxationarea. As a guest it was not nice at all! I had to find a new place.
If you want to stay at a place in Siem Reap who is serious about responsible tourism, do not stay at Earthwalkers. As a norwegian I would much more recommend either Soria Moria Hotel, or the nice guesthouse European. Because both places have norwegian management that is serious about responsible tourism. I came back to Cambodia in 2009, and will come back as often as possible. And I will NOT stay at Earthwalkers.

We don`t know why this hostel is recommended by the Lonely Planet, even as a "pick". Indeed the pool is nice and relaxing after a day in Angkor, the staff which is not at all Norwegian is friendly (but slow) but it is not very clean and outside the city. We saw a lot of cockroaches there, even in our room. As mentioned before the online booking is not working. Drinks and food are quite expensive and also slow. All togehter it is overpriced for the value.
