“Good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011 via mobile

We've stayed there for 1 month while waiting for our house to be ready. Rooms are spacious and well equipped, which made our stay comfortable.
Try to avoid rooms overlooking the lobby area as the hotel can become noisy in the weekends with many social events taking place, and this includes late at night.
Good restaurant, where you can enjoy nice meat and typical breakfast.
Slow room service, sometimes you need to call 2 or 3 times to get your order.

“Great spot in Santa Cruz!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 October 2011

Magnificent property located a little far away from city centre, but in a nice residental yet business area. Beautiful surroundings by the superb pool (that actually couldn't use because of the weather). Green everywhere, really tropical and relaxing. The front desk staff was not really polite and attending: I asked them to confirm my flight for next day and they passed me the phone call meanwhile I was doing check in... Then they advised us to book a transportation for the airport next morning in advance (as I was checking in), and when we checked out next morning there wasn't any taxi waiting for us... The waiters at the bar are awsome, they have a very nice sense of humor and are really attentive. Restaurant food was tasty and from a good quality, but prices are far beyond Camino Real at La Paz (same hotel brand). The rooms are excellent, really spacious and decorated with good taste (minibar wasnt' functioning properly, I think they should replace them for new ones). Excellent internent service wii-fi throughout the hotel, and very well done the business center. This is a remarkable property in Santa Cruz in terms of comfort, services and structure, but they should train better the front desk personnel to be more polite and charm.

“Excellent Service, clean rooms”

I have just returned from a week at this hotel. This was my fourth stay in as many years. The service is outstanding. The front desk is bilingual and is very welcoming and accomodating. The staff knows who you are and what your needs are. The rooms, though a bit faded, are very clean and the beds comfy. There is turn-down service.
Having also stayed at Los Tajibos and LP Santa Cruz I find Camino Real to be my hotel of choice. Los Tajibos is too large, busy and impersonal. For most rooms, access is through a maze of multilevel outdoor walkways. Camino Real is not as spread out, but more compact.
LP is a basic modern facility and has little to offer other than an inexpensive room. The location suffers. The staff there was not accomodating and not all shifts were bilingual.

The negatives of the Camino Real are that there is smoking allowed in the lobby bar. Yes, there are occasional weddings and other parties that create noise.
WiFi worked well.

“Noisy, good food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 June 2011

I must start by saying that Santa Cruz gets more noisy every time I visit with the increase in car ownership, subsequent noise from the constant car alarms and the local cultural necessity to blow their car horns(sometimes connected to the alarm) more or less constantly.
The hotel is probably a three star. The people manning the reception are generally grumpy. Food was surprisingly good. Room service was fast. Laundry was also returned quickly except they washed my Columbia fleece jacket which returned without the dongles on the zippers. Internet was only WiFi, sometimes it was fast and othertimes very very slow and also had a funny tendency to require that I “repair” my wireless network connection. The room was clean, the furniture and fittings looking a bit tired. Faucet in the bath had a tendency to fall off however I always got a hot shower.
The first room they gave me was 421 and it had a loud hum/whine like a generator – I couldn’t sleep so they moved me to 305 which had a bit of traffic noise and occasional car alarm but an improvement. Next time I want to get a room on the ground floor like 101-105 which I think would be quieter.
The other extremely annoying factor is the poor insulation between rooms – the windows are thicker than normal for Bolivia but still not much use in stopping noise. The walls between rooms do not insulate so you can hear the room next to you. However, the ceiling was the biggest problem as it seemed to transmit/amplify and noise from above – it was bang , crash, thump on a constant basis. I do a lot of work in my hotel room and it was driving me nuts. I don’t like taking sleeping tablets as I find they make me drowsy during the day but I had to use them in this hotel.
The hotel advised the pool was closed from June to August – I remember the last time I was here in 2008 it was the same so it is probably a yearly thing – why they need 2-3 months to service the pool is beyond my comprehension.
For me the Camino Real was not an enjoyable experience but there are not many good hotels on offer in Santa Cruz – I stayed once at los tajibos but the events in the convention center were very loud.
My advice to the mayor – get rid of all the boom cars, car alarms, remove all the horns from the cars and you would have a livable city – I’m dreaming - it’s not going to happen.

“Nice and clean”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 April 2011

This hotel was clean and felt like a professionally-done hotel. It was modern, and the front desk staff spoke English. However, it took me 45 minutes to get a sandwich in their restaurant for lunch. And one of their taxis got lost for over an hour trying to take me downtown, which was frightening because I don't speak Spanish and had no cellphone with me.
