My family and extended family/friends and I stayed at the Nautical Inn, in shifts, starting 12/26 thru 1/26. There was room for everyone, and we still had privacy. It wasn't fancy but we weren't looking for fancy, just comfortable and laid back. The staff was very welcoming, by the end of our stay I felt that Hovita and Hose were family. Havita answered all of my questions on Garifuna cooking, and responded quickly (as well as Hose) to anything we needed. There isn't anything like waking up to the sound of the ocean or taking a bike ride into Placencia early morning to get fruit, vegetables and whatever caught my fancy. There was a lady who brought by fresh coconut bread/creole bread every day, which we toasted for breakfast. The owners Gail & Roger were very welcoming, my husband and I felt like friends when we left. We even talked them into going out fishing for a very long day and it was simply heaven! It is a hike to the village so a rental car is handy for spur of the moment drives, or just grab a taxi, it is only 3.00. I really recommend taking the Hokey Pokey (a water taxi) to Independence for a day, it was worth 6.00. I would definately recommend this place for families, looking for a laid back pace or just wanting to immerse yourself in the local culture. Thank you for a wonderful stay and we will be back in June!!
