After Minsk we expected better 5 star hotel - "Belarus" in Brest appeared to be abosuletely Soviet hotel. It was cold in rooms, entrance door didn't close (it closed, but the simliest move and anyone could reach our room).
This hotel is 2 stars hotel in Europe.
But staff was friendly and recommended great restaurant in the park - "U ozera" with national cuisine.

My stay in this hotel was good. The newly renovated room provided to me had good furnishings, was clean and comfortable. The bathroom too was spacious and clean. The facilities provided are worth the money. We had a nice sleep as our room fell at the back of the hotel and so provided a calm environment. The food is good although it lacks in variety. This place is not great but good enough for the money paid. There are only a few English speaking staff here. However, everyone is friendly and at your service. I don’t mind staying here again.

I stayed at this hotel for a night with my wife. To compare with western standards this hotel is average. But in comparison with other former soviet republics hotels it's very good. The room was brand-new repaired, clean, well furnished. It's a great value for price. We took luxe room for fewer than 100 USD. Try to find something like that in any other European country, I bet you'll fail. The location is fine. The only point I find curious about this hotel is the fact that they have four food sets for breakfast. You can order only a set. For instance my wife wanted coffee and it was only in one set with scrambled eggs and a salad. If you don't have strict food preferences as I do it could seem funny, but for me it was a tough choice.

For western standards the hotel is nothing special. But it's a grea experience if you want to tast the commie times. Especially the restaurant: time warp. Even the waitress was in warp, dressed in cheap sixties style. Wonderful! And expect nightly calls by prostitutes, quite normal in Belarus.
After having trouble getting traintickets out of Belarus (to Terespol) we found one (!) person in the hotel who spoke english: the manager. Very handy to know in a city wheren everything is in russian, even the ladies behind the counter in the trainstation.
