My wife and I have stayed at Highland Lake Inn B&B several times, and have consistently been impressed with the care taken by Pecco and Gail to see to the comfort and desires of their guests. The rooms are comfortable, and guests who wish to lounge in common areas have their choice of the dining room, the living room (with fireplace), or, in good weather, the porch or patio. Breakfasts are large and delicious.
We stay at B&B's quite often, and I have never found another one where so many of the guests who are departing insist on hugging their hosts. Clearly, they look upon Pecco and Gail as friends rather than just innkeepers, as do my wife and I.
I note that a previous reviewer cast doubt on the veracity of all of the positive reviews, saying that they were all from reviewers who had posted only one review. I checked, and found that 25 of the positive reviews WERE from first time reviewers. However, nine were by people who had posted five or more reviews, including five star reviews from five reviewers who had posted between 12 and 46 reviews.
My experiences at this B&B have been so pleasing that I have written a poem about it:
At the Highland Lake Inn B&B,
Gail and Pecco Beaufaÿs
See to your comfort with true Old World flair-
Other establishments cannot compare.
(To offer what seems like a well founded hunch,
The dogs may well be the brains of the bunch-
In return for some kibble and various snacks,
They protect against chipmunk or squirrel attacks!)
To let you vacation with all of your crew,
They welcome your well-behaved kids and pets, too!
Each breakfast is fit for a king or a queen-
Pecco’s a chef of the finest cuisine.
In a house dating back to 1767,
It’s an updated slice of colonial heaven,
Ten guest rooms, each different, with bathroom en suite,
Each one with LCD flat screen complete;
From Italian-made linens that feel like a kiss,
To free Wi-Fi access, for internet bliss;
Completely updated, it yet keeps the charm
Of its earliest days as a gentleman’s farm.
Near to a lake for kayaking or swims,
If such should be part of the guests’ fondest whims,
With hiking or biking that’s justly renowned,
And skiing when there may be snow on the ground,
So if you should find yourself anywhere near,
There’s no better place to relax in than here.
