This is so much more than a Bed and Breakfast. Gail and Pecco are more like family than "Inn keepers." They have always taken great care of me. I think I am past my fourth stay at Highland, and wouldn't think of going anywhere else. Great company, Great food. The rooms are tastefully done and comfortable. My son is at Proctor Academy, so not only was this a good find, it was the "diamond in the rough." Their business card states "Where your relaxation and refreshment is our pleasure." Quite true.

In mid-October my wife, our parents-in-law and I had our happiest overnight
stay since arriving in New England in the lovliest of all Bed-and-Breakfast
houses we have experienced so far.
The Highland Lake Inn combines a perfect array of stimulating
- and soothing, factors.
First, the house - the oldest one in the area and yet equipped, insulated
and sound-proofed according to 21st century standards.
Its location on the side
of a rise from lake level makes it dominate the surrounding area. The result
is spectacular view of objects near and far from just about all guest rooms
- we had the "George"-, views of the nearby and usually deserted hillroad,
of the nearby canal, even a mountain top can be spotted from there. And to
enjoy the romantic and totally quiet lake nearby all one has to do is to
take a short stroll. Or, incidentally, a longer one that we took along the
old light railway tracks that are still there, though unused.Needless to
state how much we were taken in by the New Hampshire foliage at peak. We
looked at the comfortable room equipment- as seen on the website - and had a
deep and refreshing sleep after doing some 6 miles of fast walking around
the lake and, later, driving to an excellent nearby Chinese-Thai Restaurant.
During our next stay we'll try the refined cuisine our most helpful host and
innkeeper is renowned for.
Another highlight of our stay was the scrumptious breakfast with everything
home-made and according to our wishes - plus freshly pressed and untreated
apple juice they had bought from the neighbors. Needless to say, they
included eggs "any style" (in our case poached ones) and all the delicacies
a generous continental breakfast in New England countryside conjures up. We
loved the cleanliness of the house and the traditional-style surroundings as
much as the inspired conversation with our worldly and dynamic host cpouple.
The only thing the four of us regretted was that we could stay only one
night, this time. My Chinese in-laws in particular were loath of departing
and almost wanted to emigrate to the Highland Lake Inn. But at just about
two hours from Boston it will be easy to return - soon.

We arrived expectating only a bed and a breakfast and got so much more! On a late arrival we were greeted by wonderful hosts Pecco and Gail and felt we had arrived to stay with family. We were too late for their dinner but were promptly assisted in finding a restaurant nearby and returned to find our bags had been taken to a cozy room. We slept in wonderful ironed sheets, snowy white, soft, high thread count ones dressing wonderful down duvets and pillows on a bed that rivaled my Hastens bed at home for comfort. Best of all: no silly top sheet over a comforter that has touched who-knows-whose face and arms before yours. Just a perfectly laundered duvet cover. That European touch was much appreciated!
Gail's schedule meant we didn't see much of her but Pecco provided us with a terrific breakfast and even better company. He has years of international hotel management experience but is head and shoulders above the slickly professional creatures that often inhabit that industry. Warm and personable, he was good for some real conversation and great stories. I think my teenage sons wished they could have him for a grandfather! Pecco brings to life the word hospitality and makes you feel totally at home in their large house, complete with the couple's two great dogs, Niki and Jeter.
As for the facilities, we loved the bright dining room overlooking the orchards and lake - what better way to start the day? The room was very clean and decorated in a cozy, traditional style. Our bathroom consisted of separate WC and shower rooms, both very small and with simple fixtures and finishes, but perfectly clean and neat. No place to linger but you can go to a spa hotel for that... The house has a great "feel" to it.
We would definitely come back again and hope to get to know Gail better then, too.

My wife and I have stayed at Highland Lake Inn B&B several times, and have consistently been impressed with the care taken by Pecco and Gail to see to the comfort and desires of their guests. The rooms are comfortable, and guests who wish to lounge in common areas have their choice of the dining room, the living room (with fireplace), or, in good weather, the porch or patio. Breakfasts are large and delicious.

We stay at B&B's quite often, and I have never found another one where so many of the guests who are departing insist on hugging their hosts. Clearly, they look upon Pecco and Gail as friends rather than just innkeepers, as do my wife and I.

I note that a previous reviewer cast doubt on the veracity of all of the positive reviews, saying that they were all from reviewers who had posted only one review. I checked, and found that 25 of the positive reviews WERE from first time reviewers. However, nine were by people who had posted five or more reviews, including five star reviews from five reviewers who had posted between 12 and 46 reviews.

Each breakfast is fit for a king or a queen-

In a house dating back to 1767,
