This is indeed in the middle of nowhere--there is some sort of saloon across the street, but that's it. It was a good location as the price was reasonable and it is only about 30 min. away from Death Valley's mains sites. The pricing was reasonable given the Thanksgiving holiday. The room given was a nice one, smoke-free, and a good size. The TV was a smaller one, and on a stand which could be hit by your head. The room had a nice sink outside the bathroom (and also one inside it) which made sharing it with 3 other people less inconvenient. The room was smoke-free as promised. Internet was intermittent depending on where you were in the room. One problem, as mentioned by other reviewers, is that the walls are paper-thin. I mean really paper-thin, so you can hear your neighbors and also wake them up if you are leaving early for Death Valley.
I did not use the restaurant or casino.
It's a good option if visiting on a budget, but really Death Valley is best seen when staying in the park, which is what I learned after visiting it!
