“great cabins and excellent services”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2011

My wife and I have stayed at Windmill Ridge twice and are very satisfied. The cabins are new, clean, and tastefully decorated; the beds are comfortable. Feels like a luxury resort in a rustic setting. If you stay here, don't forget to have a soak in the public hot spring pools at Ash Springs 4 miles to the north (across the high way from the gas station). With more time to spare, you may want to visit some Indian rock art sights in this area--at least 5 major sites within 1 hour from Alamo, including one beside Ash Springs--search the web for Lincoln County rock art guide for an official brochure, and budget at least 2 full days to visit all the sites.

The restaurant on site serves decent food, and I have to make a special "thank you" note: after my 2nd stay, I had lunch at the restaurant and forgot to take my camera bag away. They immediately called me and left a message on my cell phone, but I didn't get it until reaching Vegas and had no time to go back before heading to California, so they shipped the camera bag to me promptly. Great business integrity!

“Great Place in the middle of Nowhere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

This was our second year to stay at the Windmill on our way to the ET geocaching highway and this place has even got better in less than a year. There are now more cabins and an expanded dinning room. We also were happy to see new outside lighting which helped loading and unloading. The meals in the dinning room are great. This place is truly an oasis in the desert. Would stay here again!

“So much more than we expected”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2011

We made reservations at Windmill Ridge at Alamo on our way from Las Vegas to Ely and other points north. Since there seemed to be few places in this small town, we were not expecting the greatest of accommodations. Fortunately, it exceeded our expectations and we really enjoyed our stay here. The cabins (single and duplex) were spacious, modern, clean and delightfully decorated in "old west" style. The area was quiet and we slept well. The on-site restaurant was convenient and the menu was varied, food quite good. We also enjoyed the nearby Parhanagat National Wildlife Refuge where we spent early morning viewing many water birds and wildflowers. I highly recommend staying here on a trip to Nevada.

Room Tip: You can select non-pet, non-smoking cabins

“Had some problems”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2011

checking was a problem because the desk clerk only charged $9 a night for 2 of the nights, this caused a problem getting fixed then and then later at checkout....room is super clean and good size for 2 people...a/c is very noisy and room was hot when we checked in..we went out for a few hours and returned a few minutes after 9 PM...office closed, not able to get ice( only available inside the restaurant during their hours) or instructions on how to operate the dish network for tv....called the office and no answer at all after 9 PM.... wi-fi does not work in the cabins only in the restaurant. so I sat outside the restaurant in the dark at 5 AM. using my notebook...... no coffee maker or refrigerator in room, ..left at 6:15 AM, restaurant not open, had to go and buy coffee at truck stop...returned just before 9 PM...room had been cleaned, no soap, only left 1 disposable glass for 2 people..next day we left before 6:30 AM , made a friend at the truck stop getting coffee...returned again at night, this time no shampoo or toilet paper was left by housekeeping..same for our traveling companions in next room except their garbage wasn't empied.. the Windmill has the possibility of being a gem but these issues have to be addressed....a small refrigerator would be helpful especially when you can't get ice after 9 PM....Wi-fi needs to be addressed as sitting outside a closed restaurant in the dark isn't where people want to be while on vacation..a coffee maker in the room is part of most hotels today and the rate charged wasn't cheap...I addressed my issues with the hotel manager..She said that the tv was being changed, and that she had spoke to housekeeping...hopefully they will get their issues resolved..

“Great place in the middle of nowhere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2011

One of the problems with driving through desolate areas (like Nevada near Area 51) is the lack of choices when it comes to lodging and restaurants. When you're the only place for miles around, you really don't have to provide the best accomodations or service.

Windmill Ridge was perfect for us on our long drive from Arizona to Bellingham, WA.

The cabins are spacious and clean. I need accessible accomodations, and that is frequently a problem with establishments defining accessible in many ways. This place IS accessible.

Having a restaurant on site with good food is a major bonus when you're weary from driving.

Stay here and you'll be happy. It's not a destination resort, but it should be a welcome sight to discriminating travelers.
