“Great for Alliance but you might prefer other towns”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2011

If you need to stay in Alliance, you don't want to stay anywhere else. If your plans are flexible, you might prefer to choose another town. I've stayed here for 40 nights over the last 4 months, and I never had any problems with this hotel. This hotel has everything it should so you won't really be disappointed if you don't expect more. There are some things that you might not like. The breakfast area is very small. They have a swimming pool, but it is located right by the front entrance and breakfast area. The manager's reception is usually something basic like hot dogs. The internet speed was fine most of the time. There were times that it slowed down tremendously when I tried to connect to work through our VPN. Otherwise, I enjoyed my stay. As for the traveler complaining about early check-in, I've arrived at noon and they did let me check in a few times but not always. It really depends on how many nights you are staying and whether the room you are assigned to is ready. Alliance does not have a lot of restaurants, but you can find something if you are just passing through. Ken and Dale's is good, and you can also shop at Safeway. The country club is no longer open for open dining. As far as staying in other towns, the closest I've been is Torrington, WY. The HI Express there is quite a bit better. The breakfast area is 3-4 times larger. They have a workout room. The lobby is very large. They give a snack to Priority Club members when they check in. (I don't know why they don't do this in Alliance. I thought it was part of the program.) The towels are much softer. All of that seems like little things, but it makes a big difference. If you are just passing through, maybe you'd prefer a different route.

“Rude Desk staff!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2010

We came at 1 pm the Hotel staff Rudely informed me that I could not check in early even tho I know from looking online that there was plenty of availability from the night before meaning they just didn't feel like it even tho I am a Priority Club Member. I work at a Holiday Inn Express in another town and my spouse manages one. For being in such a small friendly town the staff is about as friendly as a Bear caught in a trap! I would never think of treating a guest this way regardless if they worked for the same chain or not.

“A great find after a long drive.....”

We stopped in at Alliance on the way back from South Dakota (a long day in freezing cold weather) & found this fabulous hotel as a halfway point between Rapid City & Denver, CO. Let us just say we are disappointed we didnt call in here on the way to South Dakota (instead of Torrington, WY......bad GPS) as it was awesome.
We went in late on a cold, icy Sunday night to find the lovely receptionist, Julie, most helpful & cheerful. She was great - typical HI employee
Great sized room, comfy beds (great sleep & I dont sleep well in most places) & nice & quiet. Clean room, hot showers, typical free hotel breakfast (sorry, but I really am sick of muffins & bagels), close to an Arby's which is great for the late night dinner.
There may not be a lot to do in Alliance BUT it is worth stopping here if one gets the chance

WE stop at this hotel on our way to The Black Hills. The staff is always super friendly, the rooms are spotless and now they have added a manager special in the evening for travelers that are too tired to go get something to eat. Thanks for another great stay.

“An echo - good luck with the management team”

Holiday Inn facility was nice, especially for the size of the town. I have traveled extensively for work and leisure in the course of the last 40 years with very few issues. As my wife and I were traveling through the mid-west we decided to take a short side trip to Car Henge. After going on line, I confirmed my room at a government rate that I qualify to use. Upon arrival, I was met by a very pleasant desk clerk that pulled up my reservation. As I was filling out the paperwork with usual initials here, sign here - I noticed the rate was $30 more than my confirmation. The desk clerk was then assisted by the shift manager. After a couple of moments I was asked to product the confirmed room rate. I then went to my car and got my laptop, connected to the hotel's wifi and showed the shift manager the exact email with the rate. Okay the rate would be honored. As we continued the process, the shift manager asked me for the number of occupants - I gave the number as 2. Where upon the shift manager told me - there is an up charge of $20 for the second person. As this point it was late and I had very little choice but to accept the $20 up charge.

I have had a number of communications with HI Express via the Priority Club email system.

My complaint was and continues to be the curt and abrupt manner that the management team has with the customer.

If you stay at the facility, hopefully you won't have need of the management team. Good Luck either way
