“Few staff”

We arrived before official check in time but the front desk girl was able to check us in and was very helpful with local info recommending Ken & Dale's to eat as we fancied steak - good choice.
It is set on the main highway so easy to find and walking distance to K Mart & Arby's was right next door.
The room was large with a microwave & fridge. The lighting was good but there was a bulb out over the washbasin which had a row of 'dressing room' style bulbs. The basin was outside the bathroom.
Everything was typical HI Express including the yummy cinnamon rolls for breakfast.
At 17.30 there was a 'Manager's Special' advertised. It was actually about half an hour later as the poor girl from reception was also responsible for setting that up so while she was doing that the queue was building up at the desk as that's prime check in time. There could have been a holiday or sickness problem but she really shouldn't be expected to do everything at that time as someone is going to have to wait. They offered german sausage, white rolls, peppers & sauerkraut & crisps with iced tea and soft drink. The coffee was cold.
We spent the afternoon exploring Alliance & were pleasantly surprised as I thought it was the 'back of beyond' and we were really in town to visit Carhenge but the town was cute and there is a great museum.
Nebraska has lots of trains running through and while there was train noise we didn't notice it enough to affect sleep.

This is one of the poorest Holiday Inn properties I've been to. They do not honor the AAA discount. The furniture was stained and the linens were worn. Food was left in my refrigerator and housekeeping acted like I was too demanding expecting it to be removed. Manager's reception was posted to be 2 hours long -- didn't even hit the 90 min. mark as I walked down to see it shut down lock, stock, and barrel. The Holiday Inn Express in Scottsbluff is a much better choice and if you are going north, I'd stay at the Best Western in Chadron.

“Quality standards one expects from Holiday Inn expresses”

We stayed at 3 different Holiday Inn Expresses, and this was the 3rd. Each one featured a very much above average breakfast. The swimming pool and hot tub were great. I did not really feel like I was in Alliance, Nebraska! We had a great time.
One note of caution though: if you are in the mood for pizza, do NOT order from the Pizza Hut in Alliance! We had a horrible experience with them from beginning to end.
The hotel desk staff were helpful and accommodating, even in the midst of our bad experience with Pizza Hut. I was late to breakfast but the desk staff still let me get what I wanted.

“Pricey but worth it?”

First off the place is great, clean, comfortable, well maintained, great breakfast, fantastic staff. I just feel the price for the area was a bit much. Maybe it's being a part of the chain and paying for the name. The also charged $2.50 per minute on long distance calls, so don't forget your cell phone.

“Great for Alliance but you might prefer other towns”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2011

If you need to stay in Alliance, you don't want to stay anywhere else. If your plans are flexible, you might prefer to choose another town. I've stayed here for 40 nights over the last 4 months, and I never had any problems with this hotel. This hotel has everything it should so you won't really be disappointed if you don't expect more. There are some things that you might not like. The breakfast area is very small. They have a swimming pool, but it is located right by the front entrance and breakfast area. The manager's reception is usually something basic like hot dogs. The internet speed was fine most of the time. There were times that it slowed down tremendously when I tried to connect to work through our VPN. Otherwise, I enjoyed my stay. As for the traveler complaining about early check-in, I've arrived at noon and they did let me check in a few times but not always. It really depends on how many nights you are staying and whether the room you are assigned to is ready. Alliance does not have a lot of restaurants, but you can find something if you are just passing through. Ken and Dale's is good, and you can also shop at Safeway. The country club is no longer open for open dining. As far as staying in other towns, the closest I've been is Torrington, WY. The HI Express there is quite a bit better. The breakfast area is 3-4 times larger. They have a workout room. The lobby is very large. They give a snack to Priority Club members when they check in. (I don't know why they don't do this in Alliance. I thought it was part of the program.) The towels are much softer. All of that seems like little things, but it makes a big difference. If you are just passing through, maybe you'd prefer a different route.
