“A good choice in central St Wolfgang”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2010

We returned to the Zimmerbrau after an 8 year gap and were not disappointed.
The service was good and friendly, the food was varied and plentiful and the small bar was a nice spot for free afternoon tea/coffee and free after dinner coffee. The rooms are not large, but they are OK. The location is central, thus handy for most things.

For a three star hotel it met our expectations.

“Always helpful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2010

I have stayed her many times, and on reading some of these reviews am surprised. We have NEVER had a bad experience at this hotel in years, yes, we have been overbooked, but always looked after. I have stayed at other 3* hotels in St W and none really compare to the overall experience of this hotel. rooms are nice, no not all have balconies or views but you are in a town centre so it seriously cannot be expected. The food is good and plentiful and the bar area is cosy. The owners are very nice, however, I suspect that like all people, they may not take kindly to rudeness of guests. Let;s remember too that the tour operator makes bookings with the hotel....so many errors if made with be of their making and not the hoteliers! I would recommend this hotel to anyone. It is a true family concern.

just returned from zimmerbrau. the hotel was in a great location and very clean. However, we paid over £100 extra each to ensure a deluxe room with lake views. The hotel gave our rooms away to other guests and the lied to us about it. They eventually gave us a partial refund because our Travel Company forced them into it. i found the owners to be quite rude and disinterested especially when dealing with English speaking guests. loved the location but i would never recommend this hotel.

“Could find nothing to complain about here.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 February 2010

Just returned from first ski trip of my life. We were a party of nine, made up of two families with teenagers and young children. We had booked late through Crystal, and thought we were taking a chance on the hotel. But everything turned out perfectly. Our family of five were in two double rooms and a single room, right beside one another. The rooms were not big, but were spotless, warm and comfortable. A maid tended to the room while we were out each day except Sunday. Meal times were a joy. Both breakfast and dinner were by self service buffet, providing a range of options which catered for my large but conservative Irish appetite, as well as for the more cosmopolitan tastes of some of our party. The waiting staff were very friendly and attentive. Every member of staff spoke perfect English and were helpful and courteous throughout. The trip by bus to Postalm for skiing each day took about half an hour. The first bus stop was outside the hotel, so there was rarely any problem with capacity. The trip was by luxury coach and the views on the way were spectacular and sometimes frighteningly so. If you are going to Postalm to ski, get a locker in the ski depot to leave your gear there each night, rather than bringing it back by bus each night. One drawback which you may find is that St Wolfgang itself is basically a summer resort, and many of the shops close throughout the winter. However we were generally so tired at night that a drink or two in the hotel bar was as much as we needed, before retiring for the night. If you fancy wild nightlife, this is not the place for you. But on the main subject of the hotel, I recommend it 100%. Thank you Alexandra and Hans for a most enjoyable week.

“Late Ski Deal-Perfect”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2010

We arrived at the hotel and were pleasantly surprised after having read some of the negative comments that had been written. We had a twin room with balcony (overlooking street at rear of hotel) which was spotless and looked quite newly refurbished. Separate toilet and small bathroom, but sufficient.
All the food was excellent, and there was a large amount of choice-something different every day. No shortage of boiled eggs either (see prev review!) The dining room was pleasant and roomy with a good atmosphere. The service with the meal was excellent, and drinks were brought to the table quickly-excellent house red too!! The staff were friendly enough, and were always pleasant.
The hotel is in an excellent location situated in the centre of St Wolfgang. Although it is primarily a summer resort, it was ideal for a skiing holiday as the ski bus collects you from right outside the hotel. Transfer time to the ski resorts varied considerably depending on weather and numbers. First morning took over 1 hour to Postalm, but returned within 35 mins. Also, don't be put off by people telling you it takes too long to get to Gosau ski resort, as it is only slightly longer than Postalm, and has superb variety and number of runs. Postalm great for beginners and returners to skiing. If you are an intermediate skiier there is probably enough to keep you amused for a couple of days before moving to Gosau for more entertaining skiing.
Due to St Wolfgang being a mainly summer resort, it was a little frustrating that most of the shops were closed, and there is very little choice for night life. However, there is enough to keep you entertained, and we found that most people in the resort all ended up in the same bars, so this made it really friendly and a good atmosphere.
Overall a fantastic skiing holiday. We would definitely return to ski, and would also love to see this great area in the summer.
