“Very! Very! Dissapointing”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2010

Just returned from staying at this place!!
Very Dissapointing accomodation and resort!!
Great flight to Salzburg well done Flybe.
Met at airport by Inghams rep delivered to accomodation in taxi
So Far so good!!
Greeted at the door with " put your bags in your room dinner in five minutes"
Room was very small, clean looked ok. Tiny wooden bathroom with sink shower and just enough room to use the loo and shut the door.
just enough room to walk around the bed but be warned I was battered and bruised by the end of the holiday from the foot board on the bed you just could not avoid it. have two huge bruises.
Had Evening meal which was something ( I Think pork) and huge dumpling no veg!!
yuk! oh how they like their carbs.
Breakfast every day was cold and basic as others have said no fruit. I took down an apple everyday which we bought in the shop (if you got the timings right and found one open).
The veg if their was any seamed to be frozen carrots and peas.
We did complain to the rep and after their was a salad you could help yourself to which was lettuce, grated carrot, cucumber and tomato if you got their early and the toms were`nt gone.
I have to say the food did improve a little as the week went on. We all prayed for bacon and eggs but we did not get it. the atmosphere in the dining room was very good and friendly i will say that.
We went to this resort for the skiing and (as advertised) apres ski!!
The whole town was dead. We have never been anywhere like it everything was closed.
Restaurants were closed, bars were closed, shops were closed
Saturday afternoon closed, Sunday closed, Wednesdays closed and on top of this, the cog railway closed, even the sauna in our hotel only opened Wednesday afternoon 4.30-7.00.
Even the ski busses went to Postalm 9.15 and 11.15 and returned 2.00 and 4.00
If you went to Gosau they went out at 9.15 and returned at 4.00 so if you want to get back tough!!
We did have a good trip to Bad Ischl on the local bus which was easy to catch and went to the Salt Baths which i would highly recomend at 13.50euros each for up to 4hrs. Great place to unwind.
Ski boots are not allowed in your rooms and are left in a designated boot and ski area which is cold and may as well be outside so be warned if you get them wet they will not dry here and are hard and cold to put on next day!!
No ski bus on saturday so if you have a later flight you cannot get back from the slopes but you can get their on the local bus.
The postalm resort was great for begginers i would recomend it.Gosau was terrible for beginners their was a huge drop down from the main lift I did not even attempt it so spent all day in the cafe drinking beer while the other half explored. Some people were comming back down on the lifts i found out afterwards. When asking the Inghams rep about the skiing he knew nothing and didnt even ski.
And to top the lot we had a little trouble with our loo
If you end up in room number 12 look out when you flush the loo!!!
Do so very carefully and slowly or it will spit its contents out at you, it took a couple of days to work out the secret of the spitting bog, you have been warned.
Also sound proofing in rooms non-existant you could hear everything

Great skiing at Postalm for Begginers!!
Great skiing at Gosau for the brave!!
Hotel bad would recommend the Zimmerbrau next door
Beautiful location but everything was shut down/closed very much like a ghost town
Would also recommend the little pastry shop on the corner do great pizza and open

Not good value for money at £309 each when others have paid a lot less and we could have stayed next door for that in a much nicer hotel
Probably better resort in summer

“Nice hotel, done an injustice in some reviews”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2009

The Wiesbauer is a great little hotel in a fantastic location. The rooms are spotless, the staff friendly and the food better than some reviews have suggested.
My husband, who eats meat, said the meals were really quite good. You get a choice of two options and the meat is well cooked. Examples of meals include roast chicken with potatoes and veg, pork in a mushroom sauce with vegetable rice and schnitzel with potatoes and veg.
The starters were always soup, mainly made from a similar stock, but there was also a mushroom and a tomato soup. The desserts were not fantastic, but they were ok e.g. slice of cake, banana split, set custard.
Being veggie the meals were a bit more bizarre, but nevertheless well cooked. On our first night they had obviously not put a veggie main course aside for me so while my husband had chicken, pasta and veg I had the veg, the pasta, and they replaced the chicken with...... potatoes. This was weird, I admit, but not typical of the other nights' food. Some other veggie meals I had included spaghetti napoli, a grilled cheese schnitzel-style grill with veg and potatoes and a vegetable omelette with chips.
There is a basic salad bar five days a week (not on changeover days) which does help you feel that you're having a bit of greenery as most people probably realise that Austrians are not big on vegetables!
Breakfasts were basic but sufficient - a few types of bread (with the option of toast), cold meats, cheeses, pate, jam, honey, cereal, milk, yoghurt, tea, coffee and a couple of fruit options.
The drinks were not over-priced and the house white wine was quite nice.
Overall, we had a lovely time in the Wiesbauer and would stay there again if we went back to St Wolfgang.

“Clean,friendly,efficient,central, and a bargain.”

Having stayed in Austria quite a few times we found the food here to be quite standard Austrian fare, perfectly edible, and a bargain for what we paid. I think some people reviewing expect 5 star gourmet cuisine when paying 2 star prices .We arrived in the evening and a hot meal was waiting for us .Service was excellent , the three ladies were always friendly and efficient. The hotel is as central as you can get , rooms cleaned every day. Our room over in the annexe suffered from having no balcony (not to matter as buildings in St Wolfgang are so close together not many get very good views except of their neighbours) but I think we had one of the larger rooms and certainly had a larger bathroom than in the main building . Overall this place is a bargain if you get a good deal . St Wolfgang is a lovely place ,great for walking , good flat walks around the lake if hills are too much, the views from the surrounding hills are beautiful and the Austrian people are always friendly .

“a reasonable budget hotel.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 July 2009

The Wiesbauer has good location in the centre of the town. It is clean and comfortable with pleasant staff. However, like other people we had a reservation about the meals. Some were fine, and I know we weren't paying for anything other than basic nosh, but even given the tightest catering budget, a couple of the meals were unacceptable. It's a shame to spoil what could otherwise get a good rating. A little effort and imagination would work wonders!

“Wiesbauer - overall good, but watch the vegetables!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2008

We also booked with Inghams via lastminute.com. Inghams reps, Tom and Hannah are helpful and ever-cheerful, and offer a range of day trips and evening activities at reasonable prices.

The Wiesbauer is excellently placed at one end of the village square, with views of the church from rooms at the end of the hotel. You're only a minutes walk from the lake, and ten minutes max from the Shafberg cog railway.

Rooms are clean and warm with a small en-suite shower room (typical tiny hotel towels) and plenty of storage space. The small TV picks up Sky News and BBC World News, as well as plenty of Austrian and German channels. There's a lounge on the first floor, but it's not well used.

Breakfast is from 8am to 9.30am - yoghurt, cereals, orange juice, cold meats, cheese, bread and rolls, jams, honey, coffee (strong) and various teas, including English Breakfast.

If you're on half board, you'll be given a note at breakfast with the two choices for dinner. Dinner is from 6pm to 8pm and has three courses. The starter was always either a salad buffet or clear broth and main courses are typically meat and potato based. Vegetables appeared rarely and are mostly tinned mixed veg and very salty. Be warned - Tuesday's 'omlette with vegetables and chips' has the vegetables IN the omlette and the chips are already salted. If you don't suffer from a lack of sodium I recommend you take the beef or pick Tuesday as a night to eat out (loads of excellent restaurants in the village - we can heartily recommend the Restaurant Hubertuskeller just around the corner.)

Pudding can be given a miss - highlights included tinned mixed fruit with a scoop of strawberry ice cream, apple cake with squirty cream and a hot plum dumpling. Go across the square to Cafe Wallner and treat yourself to a piece of Sachertorte instead!

If you arrive after 8pm, as we did from the Gatwick flight, your first dinner will be bread, cold meats and cheese.

The bar in the restaurant is open until 10pm, serving beer (Zipfer - lovely!) and house wine. The cellar bar opens at 10.30pm except for Wednesdays.

Overall we had a peaceful holiday, which was what we needed, but we can't see ourselves staying at the Wiesbauer again. If we do go back to that part of Austria we'll be staying at the Weisses Roessl.
