“First rate!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

The Landhaus is quite small - about 25 rooms, and that is part of its charm - small enough to get to know people, but large enough for a good variety of guests. Its on an intimate scale.
There's no pool, but there is a magnificent lake, and it was warm enough in September to swim. Just great after a hard day's sight seeing! Oh, there are Austrian cakes every afternoon on the terrace, so the choice is cake first and swim, or the other way round. Difficult!
The rooms vary in size, aspect and price: we had a room at the side with a view down to the lake, and situated on the road side of the hotel. We did not find the traffic a problem at night - it is not a six lane highway! If you do not get a room facing the lake, don't worry - you can see all you want from the terrace and restaurant. Walk down into the garden, get a sunlounger, and look at the scene - or swim.
It is a 15 minute walk into the town - but time it right and you can catch the bus outside the hotel. And you can take the Postbus to Salzburg or Bad Ischl, and onward from there. Easy to read timetable at the stop. We travelled easily to Hallstatt, Gmunden and Salzburg. A car might be good if you want to go to other places.
As others have said, the hotel has its regulars who go back year after year - and we can see why. The food is excellent - always a meat/fish/vegetarian option. The cuisine is very Austrian (what a surprise) but light. A good selection of wines as well. The hotel staff are really good - with the small size, they can get to know their guests, and the service is personalised.
Would we go again - Yes! One of the best hotels we have ever stayed in.

Room Tip: Lake view rooms have a great view, but cost more!

“Delightful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2011

Lovely hotel with great food, great staff and a beautiful, quiet location directly overlooking the lake. We enjoyed a complimentary boat ride around the lake, including a delicious cocktail and a complimentary horse drawn carriage ride was also offered. Our only complaint was that the room was a little too warm in the evening, after a sunny day, and there wasn't an air conditioner.
Otherwise, the week we spent there was perfect.

Room Tip: Definitely book a room on the lakeside to really take advantage of the location.

“Outstanding retreat at a gorgeous lake”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

We had a fantastic four day wedding at Appesbach. The food was outstanding and the service impeccable. Every single one of our guests loved it. We also would like to highlight the unbelievable dedication of the GM, Mr. Wiehmeyer, who fulfilled our wishes even before we could tell him. Even the smallest details were perfectly arranged. He helped us in our planning during the months before the wedding and gave us priceless hints regarding area and possibilities there. The service at Appesbach is very friendly - but not only in a professional way, but in a dedicated way. They all seem to love their job and the hotel - and this is what you can feel there.
We will definitely stay again - and this not only for our wedding anniversary. This is not only a hotel - it is a secret retreat!

“A gentle gastronomic gem, tucked away beside the lake”

We returned to the appesbach following a wonderful vacation last summer (despite inclement weather) to find, not surprisingly, that five other couples had also returned. Great food, service and ambience is assured and the private lakeside area is a haven for both relaxation and water forays. There are appealing walking and cycling routes on the doorstep. The hotel stands back from the road and is shielded by trees. We spent a week in the suite nearest to the road and never had a problem - traffic moves in an orderly fashion and is rather sparse as there is no through route beyond St Wolfgang. The hotel has differently rated rooms of character, most with a view onto the lake. We enjoyed our first stay in a small room just as much as our second stay in a bigger suite, savouring the fortune of being a guest in a beguiling place where everyone is treated with ubiquitous graciousness. And the food ... delicious.

“Make sure your room faces the lake and not the road”

We were booked in this hotel by an "executive" travel agent for 4 nights. We were in a "suite" facing the road which navigates the circumference of the lake. While the property is quaint, the staff very nice and the location a convenient walk from St. Wolfgang, if you are in a room facing the road don't expect much sleep. All night long we listened to cars and trucks passing by the hotel (literally 50 meters from our hotel room) with the headlights reflecting on the wall of the room across from our bed. At 3:00am of our first night's stay we decided to pull the ripcord and found a room for our remaining three days at the Schloss Fuschl spa and resort which is 25 minutes a way and spectacular.
