“Good choice for a basic motel, a fair value for price paid”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2009

I am in the final night of my 5 night stay here in Austin, MN and at Countryside Inn. As others have mentioned, it is a "mom-and-pop" operation. It is your basic roadside motel, just off the interstate on the edge of town (though downtown is about only 2 miles away). Decor throughout the motel is basic and a little outdated. The exterior is equally pretty basic. However, it is clean and maintained. There is adequate lighting on the outside of the motel and in the hallways. Rooms are sufficient lighting too.

Rooms have all the basic items you'd expect in a basic motel, and maybe a little bit extra: activity table, microwave, fridge, coffeemaker, alarm clock. Room has an area to hang clothes and a basic dresser. Shower is good, though water drained a little slow. There is a basic continental breakfast, nothing spectacular but let's you get something in your stomach. No pool, business center, or exercise room, but does have wi-fi. There is also a washer and dryer for your clothes if needed.

Hotel also feels quite secure. Front door is accessible by key only at night and someone can be called 24/7. All doors to guest rooms are electronic locks, just like in the chains.

Bed was clean, though a bit firm for my tastes. No lumpiness or springs however, so bed being firm is just a personal preference. That said, I slept fine.

Staff, which is the "mom-and-pop" were friendly enough with me. Housekeeping is done daily and was done reasonably well.

Best thing is probably the price. Rate very competitive, especially for what you're getting. I considered some of the chain hotels in town, but were significantly higher in rate and had questionable reviews.

I would absolutely stay here again, assuming I was looking for good, basic, inexpensive motel in Austin.

“Friendly staff, extremely clean, large rooms”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 May 2009

Don't be fooled by the driveway leading to this mhotel; the building has been renovated inside and is very nice. The room is simple, but extremely clean, plenty of space with 2 queen beds, a large table/desk with mini fridge and microwave. There were 3 chairs in our room, making it possible to sit somewhere besides the beds. The beds and pillows are very comfortable - always a plus after driving for 10 hours.

The owners are very helpful and friendly. There is a Wal-Mart SuperCenter, Target, shopping mall and plenty of places to eat no more than a mile from the hotel via I-90's next exit. Easy on, easy off access to I-90.

There is also a small continental breakfast available - the usual muffins, bagels, cereal, coffee, etc. There is a full-sized washer and dryer available for guests as well.

The only caution I would provide is to the ladies - don't use a hair dryer and the microwave at the same time; I blew the breaker doing this. The owner was very nice about it considering it was only 6AM and he was just getting dressed!

Overall I thought this was a good place to stay overnight during our recent trip.

“OK budget choice”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2008

This is an older property that has had some remodeling and appears to be a "mom and pop" operation. The people who appeared to be the owners were friendly. The property is very near I-90, so we heard traffic speeding by at 70 mph. The double room was large and had a microwave and mini-fridge and extra chair for watching TV. While the TV and a large array of cable channels, all the channels noticeable "snow." Most importantly, the room was clean and it was quiet. But the furnishings showed some signs of wear, and the beds could have used a better pad for increased comfort (new mattresses would be even better). Overall it wasn't a bad stay, but it is clearly a budget choice. Based on the negative reviews for other budget properties in Austin, this is probably an OK place for the price.

“Friendly, clean and super rooms”

The staff at the Countryside Inn go all out to make a family comfortable and relaxed. They have smoking and nonsmoking rooms. They also have rooms especially equiped for the handicap. They have single, queen and king beds that sleep very well. Hot tubs in some of the rooms feel great after a long trip or just as a get-a-way from the kids. The continental breakfast has a variety of items and they are not stingy about the amount or how many times they have to refill things. The restaurant next door, The Sportts Bar and Grill, has excellent food and is only 50 yards away. The prices range from around $40 for a single and $83 for a king sized bed and hot tub for 2 people. Kids sleep free and there are cots available. Security cards are needed for all doors to the Inn. There is no pool at this hotel. It is off I-90 and has parking for semi's.
