“needs some upgrades and FORGET central reservations!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

I really hate to dish negative comments about this place, as it has it's good points. But a few upgrades would go far for both the hotel and it's guests. Plus-- it's central reservation site turned me off completely.

This is a clean hotel,no doubt. The pool area was nice, the water temperature was warm, which is hard to come by these days in the coldest months of climates this extreme, but other than that I expected a bit more comfort and luxury. This hotel is conveniently located off the Interstate..too much so....I would have been concerned staying in a room off the other end of the hotel as it would have been a stone's throw from the (icy) interstate exit. Although I can not complain about the traffic noise in this room.

Someone commented about the itchy, floral bedspreads. Agreed. Not just tacky, and hard on the eyes, but one gets spoiled on the new alternative down comforters that is common in hotels these days. My biggest gripe however was the pillows, or lack of, as this made for a restless, uncomfortable night. mattress was adequete (at best), and the showerhead was one of the worst I can remember in all my hotel visits. I am confused as to the few who commented on the breakfast being good, I found this anything but enjoyable. Scrambled eggs that tasted as if they were produced from a mix, sausage that was dry and a rather mysterious and weird texture.

$90.00 a night is not either a outragious or reasonable charge per night, but as someone who travels frequently I have seen MUCH better for the money. Hotels are getting very competitive these days, and pulling out all the stops. This place is not even in the running.

Last thing-- I called central reservations originally to book this room as I could not find the direct line to the hotel, after several unproductive minutes and several absurd questions later, guy with broken English asks "And how much are you willing to pay for this room?" Huh!?! I barely knew what to say to that other than "Excuse me!?! What kind of question is that!?! Flustered,, I finally hung up and called the hotel directly. I am really growing frustrated with hotels I can not speak to directly.

“Pet Friendly? Only if you smoke!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 October 2011

I have stayed at this hotel every year since it was built. I will not stay there again. After accidently booking with hotels.com instead of the Country Inn reservation line, I was treated rudely by the clerk at check in. I had asked when making the reservation if the hotel was pet friendly and told it was for a $10 fee. At check in, I was told I could only have a smoking room. I travel frequently with my dog and stay in hotels 40-60 nights a year and have never been forced to stay in a smoking room. Since I was going to lose my money if I left, I stayed. The room reaked of smoke and I turned on the heat and opened the window. At 5:26am the smoke detector went off! I packed up and told the desk clerk that my room was filled with smoke and maybe he should check on it. To say he was not concerned was an understatement. He told me to take the batteries out of the detector and that the burnt hair smell was just the dust burning off the heater. If the hotel were really on fire his panal would be going off and more than just me would be complaining. SERIOUSLY!!!

Room Tip: If you have a pet don't stay here!

“Far better than we expected!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2011

We booked a king whirlpool suite - it was only $20 more than a regular room. The whirlpool tub was awesome! The bed was comfy, the room was super quiet, the shower was clean and worked great, friendly staff, A+ on breakfast. I would give it five stars, but the blanket was thin and cheap (luckily we had one of own along) and the location isn't anything to write home about - just off a freeway exit ramp. We were visiting family in the area and if we go again, no question we'd stay there again.

Room Tip: The whirlpool's worth the extra - whether for romance or aching bones (or both).

“Friendly Staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2011

We decided to stay a night in Alexandria at the last minute. After calling a few hotels in town, they had the best price at $79.00 for 2 adults and 2 queen beds with breakfast. The staff was friendly over the phone and in person and I genuinely felt welcomed.

The room was clean and nice. It was also quiet but that could be because there may not have been many people around us. The breakfast was nice, I had oj, belgium waffle, sausage and eggs. There were many other good choices.

The only drawback to the stay was that we were on the other side of the building, and the parking for our room was a gravel area which was dark and ours was the only vehicle. The back door also did not lock - something which the staff knew of and were trying to get fixed.

Other than that, it was a nice stay at the last minute. I would be open to stopping there again.

Room Tip: The back side of the hotel may be quieter, there are no streets going by.
