My mother and I stayed at the Hawthorn Inn and Suites on Green Ct. during the month of February 2011 due to a family member being treated at the University of Michigan Hospital. We chose to stay here for the convenient location to the hospital and the fact that they allowed pets. Those were about the only positive aspects about this property. From arrival to departure, I was met with disappointments and poor service around every corner. The continental breakfast in the morning was not terrible and included the typical breakfast items, however, I was put off by the fact that there were no tongs with any of the bread...so person after person reaching into the bags? NOT sanitary or appetizing. The dishwasher in our room malfunctioned and began leaking out water. This happened on a Saturday. Upon calling the front desk and explaining the situation, we were told that there was no maintenance on the weekend. Shortly after, the maintenance worker called our room and was VERY unaccommodating and seemed to want to blame the problem on us rather than coming to fix the problem...the solution from him was to try to run it again and if it still didn't work he "guessed he would have to come out". The walls here are paper thin, and getting good sleep is difficult. The only good service we received was from the housekeeping & select front desk staff who were excellent - the hotel also had a satisfactory fitness center and pool/hot tub, and offered complimentary wireless internet.
This hotel is sub par at best, and if you can find other accommodations, I would say you should.
