Before I left for Ann Arbor, I looked up the hotel reviews for the Hawthorn Suites on TA and was discouraged by the most recent reviews. We had a family party in Ann Arbor and many of the family members were staying here, so I was worried. While I agree that the staff seemed fairly disinterested, they were not nearly as bad as the reviews made it sound. For the money, you can't beat what you got. We stayed in a Double Queen suite, which meant we had two separate bedrooms, each with a queen bed, plus a separate bathroom in each room, plus a kitchen, living room...even a fireplace...all for $115 (plus tax). Beds were very comfortable and everything was clean.

I have stayed at this hotel at least once a month for many years. It is close to the company I visit. It was a hotel I would tell everyone they needed to stay at when in Ann Arbor. I have stayed at the Hampton Inn & the Holiday Inn prior to this hotel. The staff is what makes the Hawthorn the place to stay. I travel most of the year and are away from home. This hotel made it enjoyable to be away from home. I can tell the staff does not enjoy the new changes the owner is making at this hotel. I do not know why you would make changes to something that was not broken. I have tried to talk with the new manager and you could tell he did not want to bother talking with me. I feel this is the problem with the change in the staff’s happiness.

Let me preface this review with I use TA quite often and I’m active member on this website. I’m not one to complain or write negative reviews. This will be my first negative post as customer service is severely lacking at Hawthorne Suite, Ann Arbor. I tried calling the hotel and making a reservation back in October, I was told that they were having computer problems and to book my rooms online. I went to the website and selected four rooms for Sept of 2011. There was nothing about my reservation being nonrefundable or not being able to cancel. I travel quite frequently and would never agree to such terms. Well, this past Friday the Hawthorne charged my debit card for my room even though my check in date is in Sept of 2011. After calling Hawthorne/Wyndham customer service and being connected, disconnected twice and wasting two hour of my time they said they could do nothing and that I booked a non refundable room. I also should mention that these charges put my checking account over the limit and I was charged for that as well. I have learned a lesson to use my credit card to hold reservations. Hawthorne has no interest or care that they had over drew my account a week before Christmas. I called and spoke to the GM, he said he would get back to me. This was four days ago and he still hasn’t got back to me. I followed up with a voicemail yesterday and still no call. Hawthorne/Wyndham customer service is inept and I won’t stay at either hotel again. When booking this hotel, please be aware that your card get charged at anytime and the customer service department won’t take the time to help you.

I go to U of MI for surgery. I stay two nights every 6mos have since day they opened 10yrs ago. Great huge condo like 2 br suites. I love fireplace in rooms as well.
Two full bathrooms, three tvs , great breakfast. My favorite hotel in MI period
They give discount to U of MI hospital patients very nice for them to do that= lots of patients there for U of MI medical care
Old manager was NOT an pro good thing to that hotel= he had no customer relations at all!
so in reviews back to 2008 disregard them please
New manager in last 2yrs is Randy Lake=he gets to know his regular customers. He makes things right
In 10yrs I only complained once when night before surgery neighbors above me kept me up most night= I complained nicely and got that night free of my room= think that is hard to get but my reasons were so valid not just complaining
Hotel did get dvds in rooms = Randy manager did that.
I will say hotel needs new TVS in all rooms = that will be pricey with 3 tvs in each room
I love my hawthorn suites and very comfortable night before surgery and night after surgery.
