We stayed at this location for a total of three nights, and we stayed in one of the suites. The suites have two bedrooms, a full kitchen and a living area with a sofa bed. Our stay was adequate, but I don’t know if we would stay again. If you are looking for a place to stay when visiting the University of Michigan Hospital or campuses, this would be a great location. There is a grocery store, which is positioned in a small mall, literally within walking distance from the hotel. There are several fast food and sit down dining locations within a five minute driving radius.
Out of fairness, I have listed what I believe to be the pros and cons of staying in this hotel, based on our experience. I gave this location a poor rating, because the lack of cleanliness of the rooms and the lack of assistance or empathy from the staff.
Here are the highlights:
1. Complimentary "full" breakfast (buffet style) every morning.
2. Complimentary evening meal (buffet style), Monday thru Friday.
3. Free shuttle service.
4. Free Wi-Fi.
5. Indoor pool and hot tub. We didn’t use it, but it looks nice and appeared well-maintained.
6. They have an agreement with the University of Michigan Hospital, which is about 10 minutes away, and the hotel provides a discounted rate if you have a family member staying in the hospital.
7. The beds were very comfortable.
8. There is a fitness center downstairs, which is adequate and very clean.
Here are the not-so-highlights:
1. The breakfast is limited. They provide powdered eggs (ugh), one meat: bacon or sausage, a limited fruit selection - but not every day, bread for toast and a waffle maker. One of the days, they had fried potatoes.
2. The shuttle service is limited to availability and not punctual, so don't rely on it.
3. The housekeeping was lackluster, but very friendly whenever we encountered them in the hallways. The living area and beds in our rooms were clean, but when we opened the sofa bed for our kids, we found crumpled papers and a book. After finding the papers and the book, we looked under the beds and found more papers, so the housekeeping staff obviously doesn’t spend a great deal of time cleaning the rooms.
4. As I have read on previous posts, the guest-relations staff is not friendly and has a blasé attitude about customer service. I won’t mention full names, but Ch***ka (front desk) and U*e (hotel manager) were not helpful and indifferent when we were addressing the lack of cleanliness of our suite and tardiness of the shuttle.
5. There is only one elevator, so if it stops working, you are stuck with using the stairs (it happened to us).
