Being people who usually enjoy the security of having a pre-made hotel reservation for a destination, we decided to try what others do often . . . wait until we get to a community to find a hotel. Our first stop was at a competitor (which we've used in the past), but the room rate for the night was unacceptably high, even though the hotel did not seem totally booked, or busy. So, we asked this desk person for directions to other hotels in the area, and she complied! (I guess she REALLY did not want our business!) We were happy with the rate at Best Western, as well as the cleanliness, quietness, and breakfast! The front desk person was friendly, helpful, and made excellent recommendations for finding dinner in the waterfront community, just a short drive away.

We like to stay at hotels that have pool/hot tub/workout areas, and brkfst. This place has those. However, the pool was chilly--it could have been 4 or 5 degrees warmer. The hot tub was TINY for a hotel this size - like residential size - and the upper jets did not work very well and the water was only bathwater temp. When we were there, hardly no one else used the pool or hot tub - probably because the water temp in both of them was an issue, and the hot tub was so small. Brkfst was just okay. The fresh fruit selection was scanty, and the coffee is dispensed out of one of those machines that drops a dollup of coffee concentrate and hot water into your cup - not very good AT ALL. The little coffee maker in the room made better coffee. However, the brkfst overall is what one would expect for an operation such as this. The hotel designer must have had brain freeze when designing the lavatory area. It is right next to the room door, and if your travel companion opens the door when you are shaving or washing up, you are immediately exposed to anyone who might be walking past your room. No elevator, and there were no 1st floor rooms available. For a handicapped traveler, this made climbing the stairs several times kind of a taxing situation. Should have clarified this months ago when the reservation was made---my fault. Room/beds/bathroom very clean. Bed very comfortable. Rooms to the north are along the hwy. (M-32) which is a major E-W route in & out of the city and there is a lot of hwy. traffic noise until late nite, but then quiets down significantly. Staff friendly and helpful, but the desk clerk who checked us in/out should lay off the caffeine! OMG - talk about hyper! But, she was very nice and helpful. Several chain restaurants nearby, which is convenient. Hotel is west of the city which is a several minute drive to downtown if that is where you are headed, esp. during "rush hour." Road construction on the route to downtown made this travel inconvenient but the hotel has no control over this. Would probably stay somewhere else next time in the area due to the chilly water in pool and tiny hot tub and minimally acceptable brkfst. Overall though, the place is acceptable, with no obvious serious complaints other than already mentioned.

Great place, friendly staff. We enjoyed both the pool and the hottub. The breakfast was better than many and included biscuits and sausage gravy. The rooms were spacious and clean and there were vending machines in the lower hallway near the staircase.
Good Chinese food right next door and short walking distance to Appleby's. In the morning the wonderful staff brought out a stack of clean rags so we could clean up our bikes. There were five of us on motorcycles. They also allowed us to park under the front entrance awning to keep the dew off the bikes. Very accommodating. Another nice , quiet night's sleep.

Hot tub was lukewarm with very low jet output. Rooms are very clean and look recently remodeled. A few less amenities than the average Best Westerns I have stayed at. Buffet was heartier than some with biscuits and gravy as well as hard boiled eggs. Very quiet and well located. For northern Michigan a decent place to stay.
