First off I would like to say that all the staff that works at Alma motel are very kind and they have great service in that arena. As for the room... well we will never stay here again.
We have two children (3 years and almost 1 year) that are very active. My husband has a C-Pap that he uses at night and was trying to find a plug. He pulled back the nightstand to get to the outlet that the lamp that is mounted on the wall is plugged in. To our horror we saw that someone cut the end of the plug off, split the wires, spliced the wires and then inserted THE WIRES into the outlet directly!!!! I'm a novice electrician at best but I do know that common sense suggests a TOTALLY EXPOSED WIRE is a huge fire hazard not to mention electrocution hazard to my little baby that crawls around everywhere or my very curious three year old. I was beyond upset about this. I am going to contact the state health department and let them know about this. If that could be done is such a hole as this, what other hidden dangers are there? I was worried that we would wake up to the place burning down or something.
As we were checking out I asked the manager on duty (the son? He's a young 20 something year old guy) to come and look at this issue. He denied having any knowledge of it and suggested to me that someone that had stayed there must have done it and that they will "fix" it. I didn't argue with him - but come on! Do I look that stupid? Why would someone staying in a motel cut a wire (it was a clean cut), pull the wires apart, and then nicely splice the end of the wire like an electrician - and THEN stick the naked wires into an outlet???? Please... even my three year old knows only to stick a plug in a socket.
Another reason I have a suspicion that this was done on purpose by the family that owns this place, is how poor the upkeep of the whole place is. In the roof of the shower, the drywall is literally coming off in pieces, the pillows seem to be at least 15 years old, the box springs are so disgustingly dirty I just tried not to look at them, there was a spider with a nicely developed web in the corner by the bathtub (where it should have been swept??), the spot that holds the soap in the shower has caked on soap from who knows how many users, the molding around doors and the baseboards are all chipped and need of some serious cleaning and paint, the windows looked like they hadn't been washed in years, and I don't think the carpet has ever been cleaned (my socks were clean when I took my shoes off, and after just a couple of hours hanging out in the hotel room they were dark brown with dirt! YUCK!). The swimming pool was closed but just by glancing at it looks like I would catch something if I got in the vicinity. This place is totally sketchy.
Besides the nice people at the desk (they were very nice with taking my reservation - absolutely no issues there), it was also nice to have a little breakfast available. It's coffe, O.J., raisin bran or fruit loops, milk, enlish muffin with jam, apples, and oranges. It wasn't bad. Especially after paying such a high price to stay here it was nice to at least not have to buy breakfast.
So no I would never stay here again. I was seconds from just hind tailing it out of town (I live two hours from Alma) but the kiddo's after a long day at the Highland Festival were just about asleep and couldn't see putting them through packing up and getting out of there without some rest. This was the only place in town we could get reservations at such a last minute (3 weeks before the festival... we didn't find out about it until then - plus for this hole of a place we were charged $89!!! You've got to love America and the beauty of supply and demand - ha,ha,ha) and I would highly recommend staying somewhere else - if for anything else your safety and especially that of your children or pets if you have any. If I had to do this again, I would have just driven home that night and not stayed anywhere if this was my only choice.
