Okay, in all fairness, the lady at check in was very nice, & the room was made up when we returned Saturday evening, PLUS it's right across the street from a Krispy Kreme.
A friend had made reservations, requesting a king-sized bed as both of us are tall. Upon check in, the lady was kind enough to inform us that the A/C had not yet been turned on in the old wing, but she could put us in the new wing in a room with two double beds. That was not an option, so we agreed to take the room with the larger bed. With the nights still cool, the lack of A/C was not an issue, HOWEVER...
as soon as we entered the room... well, if I had it to do all over again, I would have checked out immediately. The lighting was poor. The bathtub had exactly one no-slip strip in it, located on the far side of the tub. the water was hard to turn on because if the handle wasn't cranked down hard, the faucet dripped. The water pressure from the shower was barely adequate. There were rust rings around both the tub & sink drain. The dingy gray carpet had so many cigarette burns in it that we actually lost count. I wouldn't put my bare feet on that carpet on a bet! The bed was soft, & the fabric surrounding the box springs was ragged. There was a table & a couple of chairs, all of which had seen far better days. The remote for the television didn't work.
There was a late check in Saturday night with the couple being very (how do I put this discretely?) energetic. While I don't expect total sound-proofing in any hotel, that, coupled with unending noise from the street, left me nearly sleepless for two nights.
At check out this morning, the gentleman at the front desk seemed dirty & unkempt with his hair looking unwashed. When I said I was checking out, he dismissed me in a rather perfunctory manner. I am not easily intimidated, but I couldn't get out of there fast enough! I have to admit, he DID say "Have a nice day" as I fled out the door.
The friend who made the reservaions was mortified when I told him everyting because he'd tried to save us some money.
Well, it turns out the Red Roof Inn, where we usually stayed, had a special that was within dollars of being the same. Hardly worth the savings of a few extra dollars!
I would avoid this place like the plague.
