I've had some bad experiences with Best Westerns in the past, so I tend to avoid them. However, the Greenfield Inn had a special offer in conjunction with the Detroit Institute of Art (DIA) which we were planning to visit, so I decided to give them a chance and I was not disappointed. The're located about 15 minutes from downtown Detroit and access is very easy to and from the hotel. We were greeted by friendly staff, not to mention warm chocolate chunk cookies at the front desk! I was so surprised by the beautiful, old Victorian decor, including rich-colored furniture, woodwork and upholstery. Our room was very clean and had nice amenities like a fridge, a pull-out wall mirror at the vanity, free wi-fi, and even a wall safe, to name a few. The two-poster beds, thick drapes, and dark furniture was lovely, a nice departure from your standard hotel room. They have a huge pool room with a very large pool that's eight feet deep at one end, a giant hot tub, and even a dry sauna. The exercise room just off the pool room is large, clean and full of Nautilus exercise equipment and weights, the best I've ever seen in a smaller hotel. They even have a little store with souvenirs and snacks for sale, including a cooler/freezer with frozen foods and ice cream, as well as a lending library -- nice touches and something you usually only find in larger resorts. The attached restaurant is very convenient. We had vouchers with our package for a free breakfast, and the food was good and the staff friendly and accommodating. I will definitely look forward to a future stay at this hotel next time I visit Detroit and would recommend it for families as well as couples looking for a romantic getaway.
