We chose this Holiday Inn Express because of its location and availability of tickets to the Greenfield Village's Halloween Pumpkin walk (a new favorite holiday tradition). The location was perfect, but the hotel itself was very disappointing. You usually know exactly what you are getting with a HIExpress hotel, but not this one. All king rooms have a king-sized 4-poster bed that was so high (higher than the counter in the bathroom) that it was very very difficult to get into since I am neither young nor spry. Issues, such as putting on shoes and jeans, arose because of it. The bed was so large that it overwhelmed the room and the big bed posters made it even worse. It seemed that someone at HI Express was trying to make their bedding seem like the higher end hotel's bedding, but there was no comparison. We tried to change rooms, but all king rooms have the same type of giant, tall bed. Had I known what a miserable night it would be, I would have switched to a queen room. The bed was very uncomfortable and the sheets kept popping off the top end of the bed all night . It was a miserable night. Then there also was a large wrinkle in the carpet at the end of the bed that could be tripped over if you weren't careful. The breakfast was also very disappointing. The bread for toast was hard and stale, the eggs were discolored and withered, and the chocolate muffin was also stale and hard. I gave up on breakfast. If you still choose this hotel, be sure to ask for a room on the other side of the highway. People were right about it being right off the highway.
We are planning to return to Greenfield Village in Dearborn for their Christmas event, but we will choose somewhere else to stay.
