We enjoyed the stay. We arrived in the dark, which made the place tough to find, but that's really the only bad thing. The room was clean and comfortable, and we booked as part of a package with tickets for the Henry Ford Museum and Village. Quite a deal-great value. There is a large shopping area with many choices for dining, and the breakfast buffett that comes with your stay is tasty. we liked it!

Stayed here for Final Four weekend in April.Short drive to downtown Detroit and very close to Ford attractions.Friendly staff and nice breakfast. It is right off highway but did not notice any road noise. All in all not a bad value for the price.

We originally booked a two night stay here based on the favorable reviews, but ended up checking out after the first night.

The property is bordered by an interstate; a garage storage unit, and the hotel's parking lot. Don't expect nice views. The lobby had some mannequins evidently dressed to like Henry Ford and friends. Candidly, they were kinda creepy; not charming. The hotel had a musky, stale scent with a hint of yellow tobacco smoke.

The pathetic pool was being serviced during our stay. But we were not told about this maintenance and the maintenance to the fitness area until about 3 hours before we checked in (when we called to confirm our reservation).

Our room was dark with a small window. The television in the room had one speaker out; the other was working but with a short in it. The volume on the television could not be lowered below 4 bars which was still pretty loud. The television had to have been manufactured at least 10 years ago.

The linens were pretty low quality.

The carpet had a fold that ran the length of the room that was unsightly and dangerous.

We got in late and wanted to get some bottled waters. None were available even for purchase in the room. Fine. We went to the two vending machines in the place each of which had 4 different buttons dedicated for bottled water. Both vending machines were out of water. The sad turnstyle food vending machine was barren save for a can of chili-mac which I am not sure could've been cooked without a microwave (which the rooms did not have).

The bathroom was clean, but small. Also, the showerhead was placed at about 5'5" high. I had to stoop to get my head under the showerhead.

The bed was remarkably large and took up a good portion of the room. The sitting chair was worn and disheveled.

The wi-fi only worked when you were near the entrance doorway and certainly did not work anywhere near the desk.

The breakfast was a joke. The bacon looked like processed pork parts, smooshed together, rolled out and then cut into bacon shapes. The english muffin was stale. The toaster only warmed the bread even when put on its highest setting. The french toast was okay, but not fresh. The waffle could have propped up a wobbly table.

The internet in the main lobby was down.

All of this for the retrospectively ridiculous price of $99 without tax! I wouldn't pay $39 dollars to stay here again.

The next night we stayed down the road at the Crowne Plaza-Metro Detroit for $89 ($10 dollars cheaper) and had a much nicer room, better service and a more pleasant experience.

I won't be going back. I caution others not to be swayed by the prior reviews.

Holiday Inn Express should be ashamed of this property.

We chose this Holiday Inn Express because of its location and availability of tickets to the Greenfield Village's Halloween Pumpkin walk (a new favorite holiday tradition). The location was perfect, but the hotel itself was very disappointing. You usually know exactly what you are getting with a HIExpress hotel, but not this one. All king rooms have a king-sized 4-poster bed that was so high (higher than the counter in the bathroom) that it was very very difficult to get into since I am neither young nor spry. Issues, such as putting on shoes and jeans, arose because of it. The bed was so large that it overwhelmed the room and the big bed posters made it even worse. It seemed that someone at HI Express was trying to make their bedding seem like the higher end hotel's bedding, but there was no comparison. We tried to change rooms, but all king rooms have the same type of giant, tall bed. Had I known what a miserable night it would be, I would have switched to a queen room. The bed was very uncomfortable and the sheets kept popping off the top end of the bed all night . It was a miserable night. Then there also was a large wrinkle in the carpet at the end of the bed that could be tripped over if you weren't careful. The breakfast was also very disappointing. The bread for toast was hard and stale, the eggs were discolored and withered, and the chocolate muffin was also stale and hard. I gave up on breakfast. If you still choose this hotel, be sure to ask for a room on the other side of the highway. People were right about it being right off the highway.

We are planning to return to Greenfield Village in Dearborn for their Christmas event, but we will choose somewhere else to stay.

  • Liked — Its proximity to Greenfield Village and the availability of tickets for Halloween pumpkin walk
  • Disliked — The height of the bed
