We travelled in Bolivia for about 3 weeks, slept in a lot of hotels and this was absolutely the worst. We asked for two doubles with a connecting door, the door could almost not be opened, sol long it had not been cleaned. The floor was filthy and the bathroom too. The breakfast is bad, the only two good things is the location and the friendly staff. We changed for Santa Teresa, good location too and a lot better.

The place is definitely superbly located, just outside the Plaza 6 de Agosto. There is also a lovely courtyard inside in a typical Spanish colonial style.

Well, that's all the positives about this hostel....

The rooms are absolutely tiny, bathrooms - microscopic. Breakfast - miserly and you are charged, at the check-out, for eggs or any additional items that you requested and that usually come as inclusive elsewhere. It's the annoyance factor rather than the cost -about 40 cents per egg.

Parking - you can forget it. The car dropping us off stopped the traffic on the whole street with the associated tooting and hooting so typical of any Latin American city.

So, unless you are into yoga or into staying for any length of time inside confined spaces - avoid it!

I stayed here for 2 weeks in total on a business trip and hated the place. If I werent so busy I would have moved hotels, but found standards in Bolivia to be so low genreally that I felt it was best if I stayed.
The maid broke the lock on my suitcase on day 2. My colleague had money stolen from her wallet WHILE IT WAS IN THE HOTELS SAFE behind reception.
I got used to the breakfast and Im willing to believe its among the best in town, but it varied wildly from one day to the next...
Its hard to get a parking space outside because the hotel owners son uses the place as a play-pad. Him and his friends park their quad bikes on the narrow street outside and take all the space. The sauna and pool were broken and disused. The restaurant was so awful it barely counts a one. On weekends there was a nightclub nearby (maybe downstairs?) that was really loud even from the 4th floor and the wi-fi was the worst I have experienced outside of Africa (and even in Africa its a bit better on the whole!).

Great location, friendly and helpful staff , clean and spacious rooms. Bathrooms however a bit tiny, but working and hot water (first in a while) makes it looked huuuuge...
Heating was on as I came in the room.Great atmosphere. Could always find this or that was not that good, but my overall experience with Hostal Colonial was absolutely fantastic.
