This is a great boutique hotel with a wonderful staff. As first time visitors to this area and with a short amount of time (2 nites), the staff was great in getting us a very reasonable private guided tour of both towns, recommending restaurants and providing directions.
In the hotel, they provided great service and timely help with some take out ordering (we have weak spanish). We crammed a fair bit into two days - but take more time in this area if you can.

Very friendly and clean hotel and perfectly positioned for the seafront at Vina del Mar. Great choice for breakfast with lots of fresh fruit, breads, ham, cheese etc. The rooms are light and airy with wall mounted flat screen tv's and the beds large and comfortable. The staff are friendly, english-speaking and most helpful, freely offering advice on where to eat or how best to get from one place to another. The railway line to Valparaiso is only a few hundred metres from the hotel, thus making this an ideal base from which to explore both towns. If I am fortunate enough to be able to go back one day to Vina/Valpe I would not hesitate to stay here again.

We hadn't booked a hotel in Vina. If you go around stopping at all the B&B's and hotels in the area you will be amazed how the standards are low in Chile - old places smelling like cigarettes, ran by unskilled professionals. The Monterilla was indeed a good find in the middle of all that trash - extremely well located, VERY friendly staff, clean room and nice bed. My complaints were the lack of any heating in a cold September night, especially after the shower. I would imagine the temperature inside the room wasn't over 18 degrees, which is cold! The breakfast was also disappointing for a 3 stars hotel charging over 100 dollars - no warm food, poor choice of artificial juices. The internet connection could also be improved. On and on still a good choice in Vina.

The hotel is basically a bunch of larger houses connected together inside a little gated compound. You feel very safe and cozy here. The rooms are very clean, not super fancy but fairly modern and nice and have free internet. They have an incredible complimentary breakfast with a lot of choices. The location is amazing with several main attractions, shopping, and great restaurants only a short walk away. There is a bus stop only 2 minutes away which takes you all over Vina and into Valparaiso. It is only a few minutes walk to the beach. Although we didn't have a car, we were told that you can park inside the compound. The staff were great, always helpful and able to suggest things for us, which bus route, etc. I don't think you will be disappointed here.
