It was a bit of a shock arriving at the Cantamar. We were lucky enough to get a parking space at the back of the hotel. Only can fit about a dozen cars and you need to leave your car keys at the front desk as cars are double parked. Its a nondescript little place wedged in a narrow one way street not far from the esplanade. Tired dreary old foyer in sad need of renovation as indeed the rest of the hotel is too. It reminded me of old self contained holiday apartments that dont provide daily servicing but of course there was no cooking facilites and our rooms were made up each day. The woman on the front desk didnt speak english and was as welcoming as a winter morning. They sent a house maid out to help with our bags as there is no porter, at least none we saw. We entered a tiny lift up to our floor, the stairs and passage way were just concrete, Our room was large and furnished with mismatched items from a 60's jumble sale. The bed was large, a king size and it was quite comfortable. The room itself needed a good clean as did the large very old bathroom but the shower was hot and good water pressure. The hotel is a short walk to the waterfront and is surrounded with lots of good restaurants. Breakfast is included and is very good. It was a little bit noisy there but we did stay a friday and saturday night so it may be quieter during the week. All in all I suppose it was alright for the money but doubt we would stay there again
