We should have been elsewher but due to a mix up we were booked into the MiNC apartments in Al Barsha for a month while we flat hunted, my husband having been relocated from elsewhere in the Middle East a few days before Christmas. The rooms are fairly spacious so at first glance the apartment seemed reasonable but gradually we found it was all superficial:
Cleanliness was poor. The curtains especially the nets are grubby, almost black at the top and have obviously never been cleaned. The kitchen and bathroom are regularly mopped but no one ever removes the dirt collecting in the corners.
Kitchen badly equipped. The knives are blunt, no mugs or bowls for cereal or soup only tiny rice bowls, desert spooons are the size of table spoons and only one saucepan was of a size to cook for 2 - 4 people the others were huge. As with other reviews we noticed the single cleaning cloth so ensured we always did our own washing up in hot water (had to buy cloths and washing up liquid).
No washer drier only a washer and had to ask for a replacement airer as the one supplied was rusty.
Noisy. This is no place if you are a light sleeper with the drone of external aircon fans all night and construction noise from 7am.The windows did not insulate against any outside noise at all. Also noise travels inside the building we could hear furniture being moved on the tiled floors overhead, a baby crying and muffled voices from the flats either side of us.
Smelly. The garbage shute created sickening smells in the corridors leading to excessive use of air freshener by the staff. I dread to think what it would be liek in the heat of a UAE summer. And in the lobby and garage the smell of burning charcoal & BBQd meat was overpowering from the new restaurant in the lobby. OK at meal times perhaps but too much most of the time.
On the plus side sheets and towels were changed everyday (what ever happened to eco friendliness?) and the frinedly staff happily converted the twin beds into another double when we asked.
All in all I was glad we quickly found a flat so could leave.
