“What a nice experience, one of a kind”

If you want to feel like you are NOT on in the middle east then this is not a place for you. The decoration and the surroundings cannot get more Arabian. The service was good and the breakfast included was OK.
The rooms are big and very comfortable. The restaurant next door has the most amazing camel burger and the best iced tea I had in my life. The area is Bur Dubai (Old) and it's a very nice to get to see the real face of this city.

“Cute almost boutique hotel with disastrous guest service. Avoid”

Upon arrival at the guest house, which is situated in the old quarter of Dubai, my wife and I were told that we had no reservations for our projected 3 day stay. We had our hotel in Muscat call this establishment on the basis of a guide book recommendation. We furnished the manager the confirmation number, the time and date of reservation, the name of the reservation clerk, the price of the room and the fact that our visa number had been accepted. We were finally given a room. After resting, we deposited the key at the f ront desk as requested, and were told we had to leave the room. We protested and were allowed to stay. After the second day, we asked if we could stay on another night as our flight arrangements had been changed to a red eye special. The manager replied 'no problem' - that they had plenty of rooms. The following morning after breakfast, we were told that we would have to vacate the room. Upon inquiry and protest, the manager stated that a last minute group had booked the hotel and therefore, we were kicked out. She said that she would try to find us another room in the area later in the day. When we returned from sightseeing, no hotel had been secured. We were told we could stay in the lounge area with our luggage. I requested to stay in the room until it needed to be cleaned. After the knock on our door, my wife and I, both senior citizens, struggled with our luggage through the narrow corridors up and down steps to the lounge, as the staff watched. At 11:00 p.m.,that evening, the night manager watched as we struggled with our luggage and were informed that we could simply walk the block through the narrow old town alleys and would be able to find a taxi at that hour on our own. This small hotel of 10 rooms has great promise but under present management and staff attitude, I would have to rate it 0 stars. Traveler Beware.

“Worth every cent”

Located in the old Bastakiya. So right in the middle of old dubai, 5 minutes walk from the creek, the Bur Dubai Souk or the abra boat station. No traffic in this heritage neighboorhood, so very quiet.
Great breakfast buffet. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Comfy beds. Outside temperature around 22° C, so A/C turned off. No problem.
No artsy/fartsy "art gallery" or souvenir shop in this hotel.
Further amenities (Gym, pool, sauna, Jaccuzzi, restaurants) in the partner hotel 1 block away. From there also daily free shuttle to the beaches and several free airport shuttles which you're entitled to use. So go for it and try something else!

“Nice change from large chain hotels”

We stayed at the Orient Guest House for only one night and we enjoyed it thoroughly. The room and service were great. We stayed in one of the Mumtaz Rooms. The location and surroundings of the guest house are really nice. You get a feel of the old Dubai; very different from the high rises and artificial (but fascinating) constructions. I was surprised to see some negative remarks about the service. We found them extremely courteous and helpful and would definitely stay there again. It's very handy to have the facilities of the sister hotel nearby as well but I'd still prefer to stay at the guest house instead.

“Great location. Disappointing service.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2010

Stayed here a couple of years ago and it was fantastic. But this time ... very disappointing. In fact, we'd booked for 2 nights and stayed only 1. We'd booked online, but when we got there, apparently the online service had not notified them of our booking. Finally, after about 45 minutes of attempting to check in with someone whose English was almost impossible to hear/understand, we were shown to a tiny room - not the larger one we'd reserved. We declined the room and were treated to a refreshment in the delightful courtyard while they prepared the room we'd originally booked. Given that it was now an hour after our arrival, and 5:30pm, it was surprising (distressing) to know that they had not yet cleaned the room that had presumably been vacated at midday. Eventually, about an hour and half after our arrival, we were shown to our room. This is a great location, and if you choose to stay here, I strongly recommend you phone them direct to arrange your booking - or at least to confirm your booking. The rooms are okay. A bit claustrophobic perhaps - but you'll likely be out and about most of the time. The exterior doors to the rooms have a bolt and padlock. A little weird knowing that someone could lock us in from the outside while we were in the room. And our rooftop room, which did have excellent access to the rooftop patio, had no escape in case of fire if the door were to be locked on the outside. Perhaps if our check in had've gone smoothly, we wouldn't have noticed this little detail. We were disappointed enough with the check in service to cut our stay to one night. And when we went down to breakfast, we were really glad we did. The most basic breakfast we've ever experienced in a B&B. All especially disappointing knowing just how great it was before.
