“Ideal Location and Good Hotel. Shame About the Reception.”
The Ramee Guestline Hotel is a good, no-frills hotel in a great location in Deira. However.........the reception staff are some of the worst I can remember coming across in over 30 years of hotel travel. Particular mention should go to the female receptionist with the bizarre name of 'Nice' on her name tag. From the moment you get to the desk for booking-in she is rude, condescending, and unhelpful. She won't even look you in the eye while she potters around and I don't think she remembers what a smile is like. Things went from bad to worse when the phone rang whilst she was dealing with me. She told me to go sit down somewhere and she would call me back, and took the call. On the plus side I'm not the sort of person who finds such behaviour acceptable, will say nothing, and lets it pass. I made it perfectly clear to her and I'm sure everyone else in the foyer what I thought of her attitude. It must have been a long time since someone explained the fine arts of hotel reception skills to her! The manager sent her away and he dealt with my paperwork.
Sorry, I had to get that off my chest!
The room was of a good size and clean. The bed was enormous and one of the most comfortable mattresses I have slept on in years. The bathroom suite was not as nice and needed a repaint but the shower was excellent. Fresh towels are provided daily. The room had no complimentary tea making facility which is not really acceptable these days. WiFi internet is available in the room for a charge of AED15 for 1 hour or AED80 for 24 hrs. Top Tip: go across the road and turn left about 50yds. There is a very nice coffee shop which has free WiFi as long as you buy something. A small coffee and you can stay as long as you like.
Within the hotel there are a number of entertainment options:
Rocky's Cafe/Bar on the ground floor is excellent. Food is provided from 6pm - late. A live band plays each evening and are exceptional with a varied selection of songs.
There is also a pub on the ground floor with a reasonable selection of beers available.
After that things get a bit seedy. There is an Arabic Club, An Indian Club, and a Pakistani Club all upstairs. I stuck my head into each to see what was going on and noticed a line of bored looking ladies dancing on the stage in each place while men sat at the small tables watching. I don't think they were talent scouts. I returned to Rocky's where things were much nicer.
Near to the hotel is a large selection of dining options, a supermarket, and a small shopping Mall. It's a nice part of Deira.
Apart from the Reception staff the hotel is perfectly acceptable although if I had my family with me I would stay at the Ibis next door.
