My company uses the Rolla Residence for crew members joining or leaving their ships stationed in the Mid-East, so I usually have 1 to 3 night stays here every 3 months or so. The rooms are large with a kitchen area which came in especially handy one time when my ship was delayed and it was during Ramadan, so I could reheat my dinner left-overs for lunch the next day. The breakfast buffet is okay, with polite wait-staff. Many guests are unaware that made-to-order omelettes are also available (no ham of course!). I have never been tempted by their lunch or dinner menu, but as others have mentioned there are many decent Indian restaurants nearby (my favorite is Nawab's in the mall next to Spinney's); also there are US fast food choices in a nearby mall (McDonalds, KFC, etc.) for the less adventurous. The metro is within walking distance; as well as the abras (water taxis) on Dubai Creek to get to the Gold & Spice Souk, although during the "warmer" months the 20 minute walk might do you in. The front desk staff are helpful with directions and tours. The beds are comfortable, the showers/ curtain are a challenge to use without soaking the adjacent floor. There is an on/off switch for the shower's hot water heater on the outside wall before entering the bathroom, which some may not notice.
