“How about Nightmare Palace”

Where do I begin from? This was the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. The rating system in Dubai must be totally different. By American (and European) standards this was at best 0.5 star. I'll name a few issues:
- Non of the outlets in the room worked, except for one but we still had to play with the cables to make the connection work.
- We couldn't get the bathroom door to close except by kicking it really hard.
- A couple of days, the house cleaning gave us only one towel and on one day none. 5 phone calls and 1.5 days later, we got the towel.
- The fridge barely worked. When put on Max, the temperature would probably get 5 degrees cooler than the room temp.
- The TV was completely broken.
- The phone barely worked. You had to keep your head still in one position.
- So much noise in the middle of the night. Airplanes, and oh my goodness - stray cats, ...
- Breakfast was okay considering how awful the hotel was. I did see a cockroach in the bowl of sugar packets though.
- The hallways smelled nasty.
- The staff was friendly but incompetent for the most part.

So unless you're dirt poor, you would be tortured if you stayed in this place.

“Recommended....that's what all I need”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 December 2011

After i stay in this hotel just one night, i have in my mind all the time that i will make a review on tripadvisor.

I would like to recommend Dream palace hotel , UAE (Deira) for the following reason

- quite budget, compared with other brand new / chain hotel
- location is good, near MRT, not far from Airport by Taxi (40 Dh , actually it might just 20 Dir but taxi from airport will charge 20 Dh extra)
- free shuttle bus (return to Airport) , really it's free (see the timing from the photo)
- near Reef Mall , the mall is just behind you can buy anything you want (supermarket & mall)
- 250 metre to metro station Salah Al Din (Green line), see the photo that i will post
- No disco in this hotel so you can sleep without annoyance

Something you may not prefer;
- Not allow to check in before 1 pm even 5 minutes, even the room is available, you have to wait until it is 1 pm
- The room has no window, i guess because it's country of dessert so they prefer constructing the building like this
- Internet was not free

This hotel is a bit old from the building but i think they renovate inside, bathroom (shower, hair dryer, bath tube) is very good. Since there are many new hotels in Dubai esp. brand or chain hotel, the price of this hotel is a bit cheaper than others but it's all i need. I did not expect a 5 star service, i just want t good place to sleep , so i don't mind if i will not be called every 5 mins "how are you sir / mam?" (which is a norm of 5 star hotel!)

When i search for hotel, i found some cheaper nearby but the hotel has disco in ground floor and many people commented that it's loudly until 3 am, even some say many girl service (prostitutes) available. I am a lady travel alone so i want to avoid such environment. Before i have experience, staying in a hotel that has disco and men always look at women in a bad way.......and if you are in gulf, you will understand the attitude of men toward non-Arab women , which i hate that too much so i find a hotel that without such environment.

One thing makes me surprised is the maintenance available at 11 pm. By that time the small shower is broken from the reel, i just called reception and expected that they would just turn off the valve. But he said the maintenance staff is available, and they change it for me within 5 10 minutes (from a call - come to the room - go out to take a new reel and change), very impressive.

But if you expect a very new room, trendy design, you con consider other hotel, surely in higher price. Be aware that hotel in Dubai will include more 20 percent from the price show in your booking (10 + 10).

“Do not stay here”

This is a terrible hotel. I was only looking for a basic room for one night whilst on a business trip but ended up having to go to a different hotel all together because I was so disgusted with the place. I turned up a bit early and whilst my room was ready, they wanted an extra 150 AED to check in early. This is more than 50% of the cost to room to begin with! I declined out of principle and decided to wait in the lobby (which lefts a lot to be desired), only to see another couple who had a local guide with them, be allowed an early check in because it was apparent that the guide and the receptionist were freinds (althoughI couldnt prove this)! The receptionist told me that the guide had paid on behalf of the guests, which I refused to believe considering that 150AED is probably a few days wages. I went round the corner and asked 3 different hotels if they would take me as a walk-in and they all had rooms available at no extra cost for an early check in. Their staff were freindly, the service was good and as a result I went back and cancelled my stay with Dream Palace and checked in elsewhere. My advice is that you might get an average stay here, but if you do, you will be one of the lucky ones and your stay will be VERY average at best. This place should be called Nightmare Palace. Oh, and by the way, the pool was shut, the pictures of the place are misleading, there was nothing good about the decor and whilst some of the other staff were nice enough, the chap on the reception destroyed any chance of good will. Enjoy.

“Dream Palace”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2011

I stayed at the Dream Palace from 26th November 2011 to 2nd December 2011. The Hotel is easy enough to get to from the airport and is convenient to Union Metro station and the Salah Al Deen stop next to the Reef Mall (which is five minutes from the hotel) . I stayed in one of the Executive rooms on the top floor and it was good enough for me as an independent traveller who wanted to see the sights of Dubai - it had everything that I needed - a comfy bed and a shower so was good enough as a base. The staff were friendly and helfpul enough but the hotel is definitely no frills. There is a mosque right across the road from the hotel so be prepared for an amplified call to Fajr whilst it is still dark. The hotel is also on the flight path from and to the airport which is fun if you like looking at (and hearing) planes and is on a busy street (Deira city comes alive at night) . The pool was open at the top of the building but is quite small and when I was there it wasn't hot enough really to want to use it.

There is a nice Syrian Restaurant across the Road. The best point of the hotel is that it is very convenient to the Metro which gives great access to the main shopping malls and the Burj Khalifa (which was my main reason for visiting). As the price was right I wasn't disappointed and had a good stay.
