The Metropolitan was a pleasant place to stay when I desired to be "off the grid" of the central attractions of Dubai for relaxation. It is a little self-contained island that isn't in either the business or dining areas of the city, but it is an easy commute to more interesting locations. In Dubai, this isn't an issue as taxis are quite cheap. It is close to the Mall of the Emirates. I enjoyed the hotel pool and pool bar and usually had the place to myself during the mornings. Breakfast in the hotel restaurant was comp. There is an English Pub, spa (which I enjoyed), restaurants, pool, and internet via cat5 cable only in the room. A generous, deep, full-sized bath tub (nice!). Clean comfortable room. This is an older hotel and the hallways seemed a bit dank and dreary but the room was quite nice. Two caveats: First, some rooms face the local light rail line and are noisy. Second, The Rattlesnake Club is a straight up brothel. You will certainly see Eastern European hookers passing through the hotel lobby, elevators and hallways with their gentleman companions in the evenings. But the Red Lion Pub was quite nice, and for the seasoned traveler the pluses outweighed the minuses. I might stay there again if traveling on business or solo, but never with a spouse or family. It is a pretty good value in an expensive city. Also, this is a popular hotel with US military on leave in the area.
