“Spacious rooms, good service, run-down interior”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Through an offer from the Marriott Vacation club we stayed for 3 days/2 nights at the JW Marriott. We arrived around 11am and the lady at reception was very helpful and managed to get us an early check-in. Generally service in this hotel was very good, with friendly and helpful staff.

The room we stayed in (2 beds as that was the only non-smoking room available for an early check-in) was very spacious, with a separate seating area and an view at planes flying into Dubai airport (no noise). 2 large HD TVs with a wide variety of channels, good shower and a comfortable sofa.

Our general impression of the hotel was that it needs a renovation or at least replacement of furniture in rooms, reception, outlets etc. It's an old hotel and you can tell.

We had dinner in the Bamboo Lagoon which served a buffer with various Asian dishes. The food was ok, not fantastic. There was a 'Valentines package' on offer at the healthclub which included a 60min full-body massage, 30 min facial and 30% discount in any restaurant in the hotel for AED 350 in total. Worth doing if you decide to stay in for an evening.

Overall we enjoyed our stay, but mainly because we had a good deal via the Marriott Vacations Club. I wouldn't find this hotel good value if we had to pay the full price. As a last point, wifi is only available for ridiculous prices (as in most Marriotts) throughout the hotel.

Room Tip: We also saw a room with a king-size bed, but asked to change as it was a smoking room where you coul...

“North Tour and Marriott spoiled my stay!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

It was my second visit to Dubai in two months. JW Marriott being a trusted name world wide and I holding a membership in it, opted it for my family stay but to my utter surprise, the 5 star hotel cares the least for those guests who arrive here by group bookings. My bookings were made through North Tours, Dubai and the day I arrived in Dubai i.e 27th Jan 12, they started cheating us. The immigration and Retina scan process took 2-3 hrs and even when they had been informed for a late pick up from airport, North Tours just turn their back shedding away from responsibility. Even the hotel didnt care to check about our late arrivals. The room booked through North Tour was sub standard and inspite of shedding a heavy amount I was denied of the basic Tea-Coffee maker facility in the deluxe room. The room was in a bad shape with unattractive interiors and maintenance demanding bathrooms.
While I was not happy with the room stay, on the other hand North Tour made it worse by their indifferent and arrogant attitude. The drivers just give a call on their way to the guest and if the phone remains unanswered for any reason, they just leave the guest unpicked on the pretext of Guest not shown up, while they actually do not wait in the hotel lobby. My desert safari trip was ruined by these people. The representative from North Tours Mr Chandra Singh Rathore states blankly" Either you feel Good or bad about it, we cant help". Since the booking was made through North Tour, Marriott doesnt even care to investigate the problems and cater to the needs of the guest. I am terribly upset with both the North Tour and hotel. I strongly recommend please dictate the terms and conditions before booking such international holidays especially with family so as to avoid an unhappy situation.

“below expectations!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

JW Marriott at Dubai is an old property and looking at the rooms and conditions of the bathroom it seems the management is keen only on keeping the exteriors looking beautiful while the room especially the bathrooms are in a pathetic condition, least expected from a hotel falling in 5 star category. We stayed at Marriott, Dubai from 27-30 Jan'12 and the room supposedly a deluxe one allocated to us was below standard. The deluxe room didnt have any tea-coffee maker facility (which was the biggest surprise), the bathroom mirror adjacent to the tub was in a rusting condition with poor ceiling conditions. The toilet accessories was just filled in once during the whole three days stay!!! The ice box was kept empty, never taken cared to be filled! The room was dull with unattractive interiors.
The buffet breakfast is prepared keeping in view of only european/american guests. The only indian menu during the three days we found was idli, dosa, sambhar and poori bhaji. The sambhar was just filled enough touching the base of the utensil as if it is left over carried on days after day! May be because we booked the Marriott through a travel agent, therefore the management didnt care really for the guest falling in Group Booking category.

Room Tip: Please never go for a group booking that is never book a room through any travel agency. Direct hote...

“Wonderful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

From the moment we checked in, the staff could not do enough to make us feel at home and comfortable. Even thoug the property is old, it is wounderfully maintained. Our room was very large with a sitting area and a very spacious bathroom. House keeping kept the room well stocked and took down the covers in the evening leaving us chocolate. Room service did not want to take a tip for their efforts. They were quick and always very respectful. This hotel has the best Consierge staff that we have ever encountered. The gym facilities and staff were excellent and very helpful. The hotel is well located and easily accessable by inexpensive taxis or the great train service. The only negative was the high cost of internet service which we were told was complementary prior to check in when we were told of the high cost ($130 for 6 days).
