Stayed there for a few weeks. The staff simply does not care.
If it happened and you forget a belonging in the room after you check-out simply forget it!
Nobody from the staff takes any responsibility for anything!
Also the laundry service they are using is crap. I had several of my clothes damaged even teared and of course the hotel did not do any damn thing.

Obviously will never visit that hotel again!

As this was our first trip to Dubai I was unsure where to stay for our 5 day stay there. Originally we were planning to stay either on the Palm Jumeirah or Jumeirah beach but settled on the Star Metro as it appeared very close to Mall of the Emirates. We arrived late at night from London and our transfer driver had trouble finding the place, which isn't a good start at 10pm with 2 tired children. However once we arrived check in and smooth and welcoming and we were ASTONISHED by the size of the rooms. We booked a 2 bedroom apartment but it was more like 2 large seperate apartments sharing the same common entrance. Everything you could want in there to be comfortable for your stay including kitchen, washer, dryer etc.. The hotel is about 3 minutes walk to the Ski Dubai side of Mall of the Emirates, which is where we took taxis back to as we figured it would be easier to walk back than have the taxi driver try to find the place. There is also a metro station at MOE but it won't take you everywhere (ie if you want to go to Jumeirah, the Palm etc). We took a cab all the way to Atlantis and it was only like AED30.
Aside from the large rooms, the place has a well equipted (for a hotel) gym, and they serve breakfast which I only had once as we took advantage of the kitchen facilities, but was nice.
This hotel was great for our stay and unless you are set on staying on Jumeirah beach or have a larger budget you can't go wrong here.

Rooms were clean and spacious, and the location was convenient to Mall of the Emirates/Metro. However:

1. After a four-and-a-half hour drive from Muscat, it took more than 30 minutes to check in, even though we had a credit-card confirmed and guaranteed booking.

2. It took an additional 15 mintes after check-in for the extra bed to be brought in, even though we had specifically requested it in the booking. Staff did not care that we were already extremely tired after a long drive, and didn't offer any refreshments while we waited. While being charged an extra AED150/day for the exxtra bed, it was so unconfortable that none of us could sleep on it, and instead rearranged the cushions from the sofa on the ground.

3. Internet is ridiculously expensive and SLOW (transfer rates of dial-up) for AED20/hour, AED100/day).

4. The hotel charges AED50 for an replacement keycard, and can only issue ONE KEY PER ROOM (RIDICULOUS!)

5. Front desk staff is completely incompetent -- when called and asked for manager, was told to hold and no one responded for more than 10 minutes. Then realized we had been hung up on! When we called back, the staff said the manager was not in that day!

6. While trying to get ready to go out one night, we requested 3 extra bath towels at 6PM. Front desk/housekeeping responded that there were NONE AVAILABLE, as all their towels were still in the laundry! HOW RIDICULOUS IS THAT!?! Didn't end up getting the towels till 1AM! When raised this issue with management during checkout (when we were finallly able to get ahold of Mr Iqbal) he was belligerent and uncompromising, offering insincere apologies and no explanations.

Overall, stay away from this poorly managed property and completely incompetent staff (including all properties managed by ETA Star Hospitality)

We booked this apartment with some reservations because of the location, as when we have previously stayed in Dubai, we have been more central.
These apartments are beautiful, they are well maintained and I would say that they are without doubt four star English standards. The only thing we missed was a swimming pool.
The apartments are only a few minutes from the metro, which takes you all over Dubai.
Taxis are also cheap. The rooms are so reasonable at the hotel , that I would use this as a base, if you are on a budget, but it is not cheap and chearful.
So if you want to do the tourist things hop on a metro. If you want to relax on the beach, get a cab and ask the driver for Umm Sequim beach, it is right next to Al Burg. This beach has no sun beds or sunshades. We watched some people take their own tents and sun shades. (we will do this next year , because we plan to go back to these apartments) It costs £4 there in a taxi and £4 back.
Although there is a kitchen, there is a chinese and thai restaurant within a few yards. So we got takeways. (be warned through the chinese takeaways are massive, so order half , what you would do in the UK.)
We stayed at these apartments for four days before staying at the Al Qsar, and we were not disapointed. (make sure that you get a business card off the reception, because some taxi drivers had difficulty finding it, but the hotel will provide you with a map)
