My work takes me to Jeddah often and I have travelled to the city well over 10 times over the last 3 odd years. Every time the place of stay is Jeddah Trident, primary reason being that this is the only place in Jeddah where you get authentic Indian food (thats the 'only' reason I stay there. Not surprising considering that this is an 'Oberoi' group managed property. Well that's probably where the affiliation with the 'Oberoi' brand really ends. The hotel is very convinienetly located, with the bustling Al Balad market and the old Souk located close by on one side and the Jeddah Industrial City on the other. Talking more about the Hotel, the rooms are average and definitely not with a 'view'. Peep out of the window and all you see is a dumpyard on one side and a wholesale market on the other side. Bathrooms are clean and very basic, don't expect good aminities and rather carry your own soap. Service too is not worth writing home about, with mostly distressed subcontinental folks working in the hotel, expect them to snap at you if you ask for something like newspaper etc. service inside the restaurents is average too . Decent options for Indian vegetarians, the food is recycled and reheated a lot. But the best part is the 'dessert buffet' which is fantastic!!!...I just love gorging on it...All in all dont expect a 'star' treatment but an average comfortable stay and recommended for people travelling from India who want to have 'Indian' Indian food and not 'Bangladeshi/Pakistani' Indian food and ya dont be too demanding on the staff lest they snap at you :-))
